Judging the Judges, Just a Thought!!! How to judge a political leader has been a sheer challenge to me. I live in an environment shaped by them so can I be objective? I do not know, may be not. It is about judging them so how could I not be objective!!! I must. Where does the subjectivity end and objectivity begin or where the objectivity end and the subjectivity plays the grand? How do I balance the lever with out tilting much? Should I be rationally emotional or emotionally rational? What are the criteria to judge them? I do not know. Are there even fixed set of criteria? I do not know. If vision be the key, Pol Pot may stand second to a few. He entirely challenged the notion of inherence of ideas. He challenged the class of ideas with his borrowed vision. He envisioned and attempted to redress the incorrectness in the progression of human civilization and was opt to correct it. Just past month, it had been said, Vajpayee is about to stand with Nehru as the formidable leader of Indian continent. Had yet the ink be dried and he is ousted by the Indian populace. Definitely, political pundits helped him secure few extra votes, helped him garnish little more support but the ordinary people said, No sir, we have an objection on your hearsay. In Time’s man of the century contest, Churchill could not get the crown for making derogatory comment on Gandhi. Still regarded as one of the greatest, he was ousted by his own people right after the war. People’s verdict – you are just good for war. On times when political leaders are fighting for chair, I heard people say, a leader should be like Ganesh Man Singh. On times of intellectual pursuit, I heard people say, a leader should be like BP Koirala. Does their efficacy expire so they have to be judged by the standards of their time? Should they be judged in the time slot of their importance? Having seen the support for welfare states failing, would BP be the leader of same regard if he was surviving today? Democracy can not be established in Nepal with out the solidarity of Communists. Understanding this notion and the political equation of Nepal, Is Ganesh Man a better leader than BP Koirala? Being an ideologue of Bahudaliya Janabad, Is CP Mainali a better communist or delivering the idea of Bahudaliya Janabad on face is Madan Bhandari a better communist? Where do I put Girija and Ser Bahadur :) Is there a difference between being a judge in Miss Nepal Contest and judging the political leaders of Nepal? I do not know. Slander legs or bigger thighs? Nice buttocks or bigger breast? More votes or better speech? By people or for people? After all, would the contestants even care? But there are judges, judges aplenty :) It reminds me is a story Suraya Bahadur Thapa told to its members in the Rastra Panchayat while they were screaming against him for vote of no confidence. A little bird after its first flight told its mother, look mother how strong my legs are. I landed on a bamboo tree, it stooped all the way to the ground. And the mother said - definitely, I can tell it by the size of your legs.
