For last 4 days of my 5-day trip to California I planned 2 nights in San Francisco before heading back to LA for the last 2 nights

I’m wondering though, will I manage the drive in one day? Should I spend just two nights in SF and break the journey half way between the two cities?

Is interstate 5 is better to drive or should I take US 101/ hwy1, the coastal route?
I am planning to drive tomorrow morning, anyone who has driven fro SF to LA beofre please respond me.

Any local knowledge appreciated,
Nepaliman abroad.

Mike,

I once drove in hwy1 from San Francisco to Santa Barbara, near LA. Believe me, this is the best route I have ever driven. I wouldn't suggest you to avoid that route, and in fact, I am looking forward to driving in that highway in this fall.

You can see the Pacific ocean in your right, spectacular mountain or carefully manicured lawns in your left, as wildlife parks and circuitous road like that of Thankot occasionally come in your way. The restaurants along the highway are nice, and it is so much more worthy and funny than driving some monotonous interstate highway.Just to provide a weight to my assessment, I have done road trips in more than fourty states of USA, and ca1 is definitely the best one if I have to rank the roads I have been to.

Have fun. Don't avoid it. If you start early in the morning, it shouldn't take more than one day to reach LA.

Thanks Biswo for helping make up my mind. Yeah, I heard the same thing about the coastal route but I was worried about reaching late on LA.

You are a good man.

Hwy 1 might take around 8-9 hours as supposed to 5-6 Hours if you take I 5.

Enjoy your drive

It depends on the purpose of your trip. If you are vacationing for pleasure, PCH( HWY 1/101) is a no brianer but if you just want to get to LA then I-5 is about 2 hour shorter.
If you want to stop by to meet some sahjhabasi in between your trip, email me.

LLcoolA,
Thanks for the suggestion, I appeciate that. We will definietly be taking the coastal route. It almost sounds foolish not to drive that road to LA.
I will be in LA for about 2 days, why don't we meet at sea world in san diego?
I will mail u my number.

SF is having a very good weather right now. It is sunny last couple of days.. But still bring some warm cloths you may never know... it is San Francisco.
