HI all, the team that conquered Mt Everest recently is to bless us with their presence @ my "Bhatti" in Connecticut upon their sucessful return. Lakpa Sherpa Di and her husband Geroge (of Romaninan descent) live inHartford, Connecticut. Before their trek up top MT Everest, they had to face lots of hardship in being able to muster enough money for the trip. The team name was Everest Expediation from Connecticut, I believe. Please see at the end of this thread a link to the event that was updated live on internet throughout the expedition. I have been following the event on the trot since they left Connecticut. It is my pleasure to see that these people really did it. I learned that they are to scale MT K2 immediately after this endevor. I wish them luck, lots of them. Ani, if any of the Sajhaite living in New England area or nearby NY state and surroundings want to see these people in person, please let me know. The event is tentatively slated for sometime late June/early July. And of course our "Bhatti" displays a motif of 'Small piece of Nepal in big Middlesex County in Connecticut." That should be enough catch for us Nepalese, kasoo? lu ta! Uhi Rajeev, CT, Amrika

Kyaa daudiechhan Pembaa dai ta. Everest 10 ghantaa mai. -- Last year, I was in Puiyan, living in Lakpa Sherpa's lodge. This Lakpa was the brother of another Lakpa who was embroiled in the controversy with Pemba. I think they are three brothers, and all of them have scaled Mt Everest. The man I talked to had scaled eight times, at least one of those climbing was with some Americans from Colorado. He was a great guy, a very nice, humble, polite person who wanted to send his son to a good school in Kathmandu: "american haarule help garchhu bhanyaa chha.."he told me about the cost of schooling to his son. Anyway, I was out in Puiyan bajaar , talking with some villagers in one evening about the Maoist insurgency thing that had affected the area. Later, one lady, who obviously didn't know I was with Lakpa in the village, told me and her husband, " aachyaa, tyo Lakpa ko record taa haina po bhanchha, thulo case pareko chha re". .. I loved her accent, the way she talked, but I had also detected a rural gossip tinged with slight envy, slight schadenfreude at the pain of her neighbor..
