I need housing in DC (before anybody calls me stupid, I mean VA here) for two months this summer, from June 10 to August 15. Please let me know if you are looking for a roommate or somebody to share your apartment with. I have tried craiglist, dcapartments, and other online lists, but nothing has worked so far. I looked at the George Washington University's summer housing, but the cost is well beyond my capacity. I do not mind staying in a house with a family if they are willing to rent a room in their house. I do not smoke. I do not have a pet. And, since I will be preparing for my GRE, I will not make a lot of noise. I will appreciate if you allow occassional singing in the bathroom, but I can live with my mouth shut for 2 month if required. I will be working at a decent place, with everyone way senior to me, and so will not have many friends to bring home. Apart from the singing part, everything is serious. Please let me know -- post a response here and I will email you -- if you are in search of an apartment in DC for this summer or if you do not mind having an extra person in your house for two months. Thanks, I appreciate your help. |

Btw, the place does not have to be in VA. It can be in MD, too -- as long as the commute is less than an hour. |

I am surprised to hear that you won't be making any noise preparing for GRE. Ma ta, kapal ukheldai, "Aiya baba!!!!!" bhanera chichyaunda chichyunda hunthyo! Tesai khappar chillo bhako ho ta? ;) GF chha ki chhaina ni? Feri GRE dherai padhera GF lai time diyena bhanera she might make noise ni. Believe me, upset GF ko shrieking noise is the worst! :D On a serious note, if you don't mind living in DC proper (around American University -- Tenleytown or Friendship Heights), then I can forward you emails that I get frequently. They are mostly in the range of $400-$800, rooms in private houses or apts. |

Thanks, Dazzling ko keti and Poonte -- both ji. I will check Washington Post's apt/housing list. Poonte, could you please forward the emails to me? Here is the address: ayubraj@hotmail.com. Btw, is there anything special about the places you have mentioned? Are those scary and sketchy places? M.P. PS: I don't have a girl friend. "Search and cordon" operation has not started yet. :) |

M.P., [maathi, "...dkt and Poonte -- both ji(s)" hunu parne hoina? Laaaaaaa...aba timle GRE ma gol khanccha!] :p Friendship Heights, in particular, is a quiet residential area full of rich people's mansions. I suppose rich people also could use few extra bucks, so some of them rent rooms to AU students. Both FH and Tenleytown are adjacent to AU; and the students renting in the area normally sublet their rooms during the summer, which might be ideal for you. Living in FH, though, would require a car; or, alternatively, you can take a chance and hitch a ride with the AU shuttle bus to the Metro in Tenleytown. (SOMETIMES the driver asks for your AU ID) You can also bike to the Metro, which has ample bicycle ramps for you to lock your bike and ride the Metro. As for the e-mails, I normally delete them all everyday. Fortunately, there was one relevant email in my trash from yesterday, and I have already forwarded that to you. In case my fingers malfunctioned and I typed your address wrong, I am also pasteing the information beneath. I will also forward any other relevant e-mail(s) to you as I get them in the future. I know of at least one other student at AU (freshly grduated!) who is an avid silent reader of Sajha, and it seems s/he reads everything I write here. [ ;) :p to s/he] Well, if s/he happens to be readnig this and s/he still receives housing information along with all the other craps from the AU LISTSERVE, I am sure s/he would also be kind enough to help you. Good luck! ************************************** House located 5 minute walk from Tenleytown metro with a fun and relaxed environment. Available June 15- August 15 (negotiable). Rent is $540/mo. Untilities not included: approx $60/mo. Central Air, Washer/dryer, Free Cable! Its an older house, but great for someone in college or an intern. Room is in the basement which includes two rooms, one smaller room which can be used as a bed room and larger room for living space, and your own bathroom. Single bed is provided with a desk, though the dresser, couch and armoir are available for purchase. The rest of the house includes a living room, dining room, kitchen, all fully furnished, another full and half bath and 4 other bedrooms with 4 female college students taking classes and working throughout the summer.
