Hi Taxman,

I hope this will help you
Square Meters
1 Hectare = 10000
1 Acre = 4047
1 Bigah = 6780
1 Ropani = 500
1 Kattha = 339

1 Bigah = 13 ropani or 20 Kattha
1 Hectare = 20 ropani or 29.5 Kattha

Thus, 1 Acre = 0.60 Bigah = 8.09 ropani = 11.94 kattha

Here is the conversion in square feet, since acre and Bigah or Ropani are all in U.S. Units.
1 Ropani = 74ftx74ft= 5,476 sq. ft.
1 Acre = 43,560 sq. ft.
Therefore, 1 Acre = 43,560/5,476 = 7.9547 Ropani which is close to 8.09 Ropani by Mr. Gunaraj. The difference may be due to rounding off in two different units.
1 Bigah = 13 Ropani = 13x5,476 sq. ft. = 71,188 sq. ft. = 71,788/43,560 = 1.6343 Acres.
The following information is not related to the question but may be useful for those who are interested. It basically gives a little history about why 1 acre is equal to 43560 sq. ft. if you are not inetrested, please do not continue.
The land area in the US is measured in terms of acres and sq. ft. The land division system employs a very simple but very scientific method. Most states follow this standard land division system. Each piece of land is referenced to a Section, Township and Range. Each Township covers a length of 6 miles, north or south of a standard Baseline. Similary each Range covers a length of 6 miles East or West of a standard Meridian. Thus, a parcel of land that is a 6 milex6mile square is designated a Township number with a suffix N (for North) or S (for South) and a Range number with a suffix E (for east) and W (for West). For Example, Township 1 North is designated as T1N, Range 1 East is designated as R1E. Each 6 milex6 mile square is further subdivided into 36 squares each one being 1milex1 mile. Now that 1 square mile area has a total of 640 acres. Thus each acres has an area of (5280x5280)/640 = 43560 sq. ft.
With this system of land division, it is very easy to identify a piece of land by its section number, township number and range number. Each section is further subdivided into quarter sections, quarter-quarter sections etc. This system makes it very easy and convenient for land buyers, sellers and property owners. Most land deeds (Jagga Dhani darta Praman Poorja) are recorded in the county recorder's offices and they have legal descriptions referencing the section township and range based on a certain predetermined and well recorded reference base line and meridian.
Hope I did not bore you all with all that details.

It is not easy to "Hadapo" arooko jagga just like in Nepal.
