In today’s society, I don’t think there is something called Individuality within us. By individuality I mean being independent and being to free your voice. Society bounds on us on every step of our action. Maybe it is good to some extent or maybe it’s bad, but I have just seem to notice things and trying to analyze it. Nowadays, Society drives us so much, there was a friend of mine who came from India about 5-6 months ago and he said he use to listen to backstreet boys back then, but since he came here he has been listening to Tupac and Snoop-Dogg. I don’t think he really hasn’t changed his mind about listening to backstreet boys, but the society has convinced him that they are “not worth” listening to and Tupac and Snoop-Dogg is more cooler than them. This is just a simple example how we have lost our individuality, it’s not bad nor it’s good (again depends on an individual thought) but we are so much bound by what society does and what society says. Just here in sajha, I read some thread about “NOT liking nepali girls” well, on that particular thread I seem to notice only ONE person saying “I appreciate your honesty” all other people are just hating on him/her. Honestly, I didn’t even see why people started swearing on him/her and crussing him/her out, his opinion was solely based on Truth and what he had observed. But we seem to force him to think that “nepali girls are nice not bad”, by “SOCIETY POWER” If I had just posted a thread with the title, “I hate Nepal” it would be very hard to see somebody posting something like “I respect your opinion”. The most common place we see about loosing individuality begins from high school and the society we live in. Let us take sajha as an example, we see people who “SEEM TO KNOW EVERYTHING, FROM HINDUSIM TO WHATEVER” I bet you that individual didn’t know that much of what he/she wrote about it before reading that particular topic, he/she wrote on that thread because he/she saw someone at her “level” knowing more than him/her on the same topic, so he/she first “learned” and then wrote on that “thread” so that they can fit in this little website, which they are already involved in, and many of us just try to fit in by posting only GOOD STUFFS (good stuffs = praise even if its bad) because that’s what we are taught from childhood and to hide our real feelings. There seem to be no individuality among us nowadays, but some people who keep us our Individuality, keep our self away from society, give our opinions, keep our principles, they seem to become Bill gates and Mark Twain, who influence and create the “society” with their own individuality and make another group of people loose their individuality by their influence.
