It was quite an exciting game. Pistons did very good job in their defense. Larry Brown got R. Wallace involved in both offese and defense, which I thought was key to their sucess. Raseed Wallace must be involved if Pistons have to win other games in future. Billups did terrific job in offense. I liked Larry Brown's strategy: let Shaq and Kobe get going, but shut down everybody else. In fact, they did it very well in game 1. I remember when Larry Brown's 76ers had won game 1 aganist the Lakers three seasons ago because Lakers were sitting outta basketball court for 10 or 12 straight days, waiting for Eastern Conference to finish. I hope Pistons would win a couple of more games to make the finals more interesting to watch. Here is my prediction: Game 1 - Pistons (Already) Game 2 - Lakers (for sure) Game 3 - Lakers Game 4 - Pistons Game 5 - Lakers Game 6 - Pistons Game 7 - Lakers However, I wish for Pistons to bring the champianship to East.. |

Dear Rusty, It was only one-day difference. LAKERS won on MAY 31st and PISTON won on June 1 so there is no 12 days wait for LAKERS. As a LAKERS HATER...I wish your prediction come NOT true..:) There is no doubt it will be long NAB final. Phil Jackson "the Zen master" defiantly comes up with new plan. However, it will not be like what LAKERS did to SIXERS. Yeah, LAKERS is still favorite...BUT this is NBA final...Anything could happen... If this game goes to game 7, LAKERS going to win the NBA, otherwise PISTON has a chance. It is not over, until it is over. Until then....BEAT LAKERS... |

Bahadur977, Yes, Zen Master have been there, done that for many seasons.. He knows what it takes to win the champianship. He will certainly come up with other strategy to stop Pistons' offense and defense. Always notice that Shaq plays little more agressively and carefully cuz he is still greedy final MVP.. He will try to snatch that hardware from Kobe. Nonetheless, I think Kobe has been the real MVP for the Lakers plus crunch master. Anyways, Pistons must win 2 games in their home court, even if they lose the next. If that's the case then they have chance to win the champianship (75% chance). |

Rusty, I am with you 100% on this. Larry Brown's brilliant strategy to shut down 'everybody else' worked. But, Pistons don't have enough fireworks to keep firing from all cylinders. If Phil Jackson switches the player to guard Chauncy Billups, who is one of the streak-iest player, then Pistons will have to rely solely upon Rip as Prince and Rasheed aren't guaranteed. T'wolves lost so that is it for my predictions. No more from my side. |

ehhhhh!!!! arrogant bunch is falling to pieces.. !!!! i know, i know, it is a long series, but still it feels so good to see pistons 1-0 up. and up they will remain until they win the championship. and I strongly believe that i am not being unrealistic, the way the bad boys played yesterday.. who knows.. Go Pistons. correction on Rusty's prediction: game 3 - Pistons game 4 - Lakers game 5 - pistons game 6 - pistons no game seven.. of course.. ;-) but you never know, the lakers may lose 2 games in a row at home.. hoping for the best. buzz |

Good Morning Rusty. After I saw your comment, I could not resist. I know it's too early for this. Rusty said "Yes, Zen Master have been there, done that for many seasons.. " I agree Rusty. It only took him 90 game into the season that the traingle offense does not work with The Glove :) He also said " think Kobe has been the real MVP for the Lakers plus crunch master." yeah rite with 10-27 FG perofrmance. I thought Pistons did not have any offense. How did they score 87? Sulsule says it was Zen Master idea to let them win 1 game so he can talk about his retirement one more time with the Players ;) I did not watch the game, so I have to take what Rusty said above ;) DWI, any trade rumor in NYC? How much chances do you think Knicks have landing Sheed? |
DWI | Posted
on 07-Jun-04 07:54 AM
Tauke Not too much talks in NYC now a days. I think we have better chances of aquiring Shaq than Sheed at this point. With no first round draft and virtually no tradeable commodities, Isiah doesn't have too many option. There is no point stepping up the Draft by making some trade as this year draft is garbage. You might see lots of crazy trade idea in Knicks boards everywhere; with many teams not even making the playoffs, it is possible big marquee names might be traded (Sixers, Magic..with no 1 draft may be not, Raptors). But chances of Isiah making another trade like Marbury is almost 0%. For the record, I am supporting East: Pistons. Though I think Lakers will win (again, not a prediction) |

Rusty, I agree with you. Yeah, If PISTON win Two game at their home, they have better chance. tauke, I couldn't stop laughing on your following statement >>How did they score 87? Sulsule says it was Zen Master idea to let them win 1 game so he can talk about his retirement one more time with the Players ;) |

Defence wins games! That was ever so evident game 1, but guys I am not a lakers fan but the fact is,Shaq is dominant. Not only that but Lakers have an arsenal of super star player. Kobe and the Mail man Karl Malone. I think Pistons will give Lakers a run for their money but I just don't think lakers will lose. They'll come around in the secound game, but if the Pistons win game 2 they got a geat chance. |

Nepaliballer, I am not sure about the saying that 'Defense wins a game.' It is true on Baseball and often on Football. But, basketball is high offense game. Pistons and Pacers reached that position because of defense, but over the years, it has been evident that a good offense can easily topple a good defense. Your team has to be highly defensive, even perfect on that sense, to contain a good offensive team. A coach might draw offensive plays but he has the highest authority on Defense (he is always shouting from defensive side too). Offense is more controlled by the players, as opposed to the coach. It is thus, very hard to create a close to perfect defensive team. A team can win baseball world series with execellent defense (not just pitchers but also defensive infielders) but mediocre offense. No NBA team can boast the same theory. Bottom line, Lakers will break Pistons defense sooner or later. |

here's help for Phil Jackson from ESPN pundits: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2004/news/story?id=1817366 Hereýs some tips from me. Make your marquee players to play defense else bench them, but the question is CAN YOU? I don't think Jackson has full authority of the team. Kobe does what he feels like; Malone does not play with the same tenacity. Payton doesn't give a damn about triangle offense. Do not yell to garbage players like salva, walton, rush; believe me it's not going to make a difference. |

Piston fans keep dreaming!! Reason why Lakers will win: 1) Rip Ham got shut down but Detroit still managed to win....reason role players sucked for Lakers...Malone, Payton and company will wake up in game 2 2) Lakers tend to lose discipline...when they win its so effortless...they lost track ..after all this drama in offseason and during the season ...Pistons win in game 1 added more drama..hey its tinsletown ..u need drama, right? ..Plus goign 4-0 in a series is way too boring.. 3) Lakers offense wasnt quite their..but how can you count out Lakers????? its like gravitaional law..its not goign to happen.... 4) defense wins championship..which I totally agree but Lakers are capable of scoring atleast 90 pts against any team in the NBA....Detroit's defense was good..but Lakers offense sucked..thats why they lost!!! Lakers offense will go crazy in games to go.. 5) finally ..are u ready for Lakers 4-0 run to win the championship..if u aint u better be..Lakers will be going on 4 game win streak..Just watch!!! |

cHahaa........... OF course against a Good Defense..... the offense is gonna suck. What happened to Pacers?????? One of the highest scoring team during the whole season. THey play good defense also. But which team exhibited a better defense?? Similar fate of Lakers can be expected. DWI wrote "I am not sure about the saying that 'Defense wins a game.' It is true on Baseball and often on Football. But, basketball is high offense game. Pistons and Pacers reached that position because of defense, but over the years, it has been evident that a good offense can easily topple a good defense. " You are absolutely right about that. Nepaliballer must have had forgotten the CORRECT Statement: "Offense wins games, Defense wins championships" If you look in the pasts.... Lakers not only played good offense but also played better defense. Shaq is one of the best in that category. Kobe is amongst the best defensive players in the league.. let's not forget about that. Robert Horry was utilized as a denfsive force rather than the offensive force. Of course we cannot forget those MIRACULOUS CURNCH Time three pointers...but anyone following NBA can tell that those plays were set for KOBe...... and Horry found himself in the right places at right times. D. George is about defense and so is D. Fisher. If you look at the teams that had played against the Lakers in the Championship series (Conference or NBA), all of their PPG had fallen down significantly. And who can forget the SPURS. Didn't they win because of their Defense?? Oh yeah they did. They are not the most publicized offensive force.... yet they do better things with their defense. Same with Detroit and Indiana.(Don't forget! Lakers beat Spurs recently with better defense rather than offense). and also the HEAT. Now,, you tell me Brother DWI what wins championships? If offense was the better weapon.. Dallas or Kings should have been winning the NBA crown since last 5-6 seasons or so. nothing personal. Jai NEPAL |

As of the Lakers Vs. Pistons matchup.... it surely is going to go down to the wires. It really doesn't matter to me whoever wins the championship. Kings disappointed me and the Celtics didn't even come in the picture. Personally, the Lakers are the slight favorite over the Lakers. I love to see Malone and Payton winning the Championship, and opporunity like this can never come again. ANd having said that, Larry Brown deserves to win even more. And so does the Calmed DOWN Rasheed. I will not count anyone out of the contention unless the other team wins 4 games. Lakers might go down 0-3 but they have all the necessary ingredients to win 4-3. Winning 4 of 6 against the Pistons and with at least 2 games in MOTOR CITY will be a big difficutly for any teams. I am not even interested in NBA anymore..... (of course until the next season begins). JAI Nepal |
