Coliform, salmanella found in milk

LALITPUR, June 7 - Germs causing diarrhea and dysentery have been found in samples of milk produced by private dairies and the Dairy Development Corporation upon laboratory tests being conducted by the Integrated Biologists Research Group (IBRG).
This information was given out at a press conference organized by the group here Sunday.

On the occasion, it was disclosed that germs of the coliform group like eccolo, klebcialla citrobacter and antorobacter and stafilocox, salmanella, sczella were found upon laboratory examination of samples of 14 brands of pasteurized milk sold in Kathmandu valley.

General Secretary of the IBRG and nutritionist Bednidhi Dahal said innumerable germs of the coliform and scizella groups causing diarrhea and dysentery were found in the samples although it is stated in the food Act that treated and pasteurized milk should not contain these germs.

Stating that these microbes might cause diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid, stomachache, throat pain and fever and spread these illnesses, he said coliform bacteria was detected up to 60,000 per milliliter of milk sold in the market. (snn)
