Nepalnews.com came out with the following report on June 16:
Alleged extortionist shot
Security officials shot and injured a suspected extortionist who was allegedly extorting money in the capital Wednesday evening. The incident occurred at Ramshah Path at around 4:45 pm.
Police sources said the alleged extortionist identified as Bishal Sharma was nabbed when he was about to get out of a taxi to meet Dr NC Rai, a medical doctor whom he had asked to pay Rs25 thousand as donation.
It is learnt security officials acted on Rais tip off. He was shot when he tried to run away, police said, claiming that he was a Maoist.
The alleged extortionist is learnt to have forced Rai to pay a hefty amount earlier. He is undergoing treatment at the military hospital at Chhauni. nepalnews.com mbk/rh June 16 04

- It is irresponsible on the part of Nepalnews to make public that the security forces had acted on Dr. NC Rai's tip off.
- A responsible media should have withheld from mentioning Dr. Rai's name for calling the security forces for his safety, as did most daily papers the day after.
- Dr. Rai, as I presume, is just a simple civilian apart from his job as a reputed eye specialist. He was threated by the Maoists demanding money - that's plain extortion, Maoist style.
- I am in no way related to Dr. NC Rai but, in any case, if the Maoists attack Dr. Rai or any of his family members, I would in first account hold Nepalnews.com responsible for any revenge killing from the Maoist side.
- I suggest Dr. Rai's family members charge Nepalnews.com in court for such irresponsible journalism.

I agree with this...it is the most popular cyber news from nepal doesnt mean that is has to loose the value of responsible journalism.

I think a 12 grader from any boarding school in ktm can write a better english than that used in most of the news pieces in Nepalnews.com

As they say, Nepali ma sochera ditto tyahi english ma translate garera lekchhan...and ironically, that's 'the most powerful' news source from Nepal re !!
