The government recently got down on its knees and meekly obeyed to all the alcohol related demands set by the All Nepal Women Assoc. Big deal, so what else is new, right? Well, one of them was to set up a women's college. Where would the money come from according to the communist women? All revenue in excess of the 7 billion rupees paid in tax by the alcohol industry each year will be used to set up this college.

Who is the bigger dimwit here?

Dimwit Rekha Sharma and Co. essentially kill the alcohol industry in Nepal. They torch an alcohol factory that will probably shut its doors forever. They impose Taliban like restrictions on selling and producing alcohol in the whole country. They will allow alcohol to be sold for only four hours a day. BUT they still expect the government to continue making 7 billion in tax revenue each year? Not only that, they still expect alcohol taxes to exceed 7 billion rupees so that the excess funds can be used for a women's college? Hello Rekha Sharma....are we missing a few lightbulbs up there?

Okay, so the Maoists are dimwits. But what about the government?? They actually agreed to this demand - indicates not only how scared the gov. is of the Maoists but also who REALLY rules Nepal right now. The Maoists, of course.

The characters in Nepali politics right now resemble elements from a surrealistic nightmare. The whole lot - the PM and his buddies, the opposition, the Maoist chiefs, the king, the army commanders, the police chiefs resemble actors in a Fellini film - bizzare and unreal, yet comical in a grotesque sort of way.

Maybe we do need that big Himalayan quake after all.
