Thapa left for the Caribbean islands Wednesday. Thapa is chairman of the fair play committee of the Asian Football Confederation. FIFA, soccer's governing world body recognizes the Thapa ANFA while the government and the National Sports Council recognize a rival headed by Mrs. Gita Rana. I am too cheerful about this. But it seems strange that we, who were penalized for wrongdoing in Vietnam for refusing to cooperate with age-verification of football players, are in those disciplinary committee. Is FIFA a consistent organization? Hopefully, this signifies that they are repentant on what they did to us. Also, will these football people in Nepal stop bickering? What Ms Gita Rana has to do with football by the way? It makes sense that players themselves benefit from football association nor the intruders. Because of excessive intervention of others in Nepal's sports sector, kheladis are like 'khaane piune raame, chot paaune chyaame'.In Olympics and other games, flocks of carpetbaggers(hum..) go with players, and gobble all the allowances while poor players play for the nation.

Biswo ji, This nomination is probably comes from Ganesh Thapa's personal life long dedication in the development of Football as one of most demanding game in Nepal. The ban from vietnam incidents probably have to be beared by nation as a whole, and Ganesh Thapa is not directly responsible for the incidents. I think they separate the personal responsibility and a responsibility when in group. Ganesh Thapa might be cooperating with FIFA in verifying the real age, and he might have accepted that the ANFA did all those nasty things under government influence. BTW, the Vietname paraticipants were nominated by ANFA (Ganesh) or ANFA(Rana)? Any Idea? recently, Ganesh Thapa is probably the only last Bridge between FIFA and ANFA. GP

I am aware of the Thapa-Rana duel. But I didn't know that their fight ended in two ANFAs. Sad. Which one does the AFC (?) (football's governing body in Asia) recognize? I am not sure who is to blame for this one, but in most cases (in Nepal. Where else) the fight starts when someone decides s/he wants to rule an organization forever -- maybe the family once they are gone. Lack of employment opportunities, or a vision to charter a new life? It's out of character for Nepalis to bid a graceful goodbye. Look at Girija and KP -- they will continue to (mis)lead the Nepali Congress, and national politics by logical extension, until God puts them to rest. It would be much wiser to meditate on world/national affairs, and quietly sit down to write a book. They have after all been through so much. Girija, or no Girija, the world will go on. Let me recall a Beatles line: "Hey Jude... don't carry a world upon your shoulder."
