Nepal Center of North Carolina (NCNC) and International Nepali Literary Society (INLS), Washington D.C. hosted a poetry competition festival during the Joint Convention of Nepalese Associations at Sheraton Capitol Center, Raleigh, North Carolina on September 01, 2001. The poetry festival was participated by Nepalese American Council (NAC), Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA), Florida Nepal Association (FNA), and Nepa Pasa Pucha Amerikaye (NPPA). Dr. Bir Thapa and Dr. Susan Simone coordinated the festival. The poetry festival included children and adult group poetry competition. There were 23 poems received for the competition including youth/adult and children category. Dr. Harihar Bhattarai (North Carolina), Mr. Puru Subedi (Virginia), Mrs. Bharati Gautam (Tennessee), and Miss Shweta Mishra (North Carolina representing Children) were invited to judge the competition. The adult group prizes were $ 121.00 for the first, $ 91.00 for the second, 51 for the third, and $ 31.00 for the fourth. Similarly, the children group prizes were $ 51, 31, 21, and 16 for the first, second, third, and fourth, respectively. Following poets were the winners for their respective poems: Youth/Adult 1.
