Recently, I came across a book called "Aajakao Nepal" by Hemraj Adhikary "Shastri". The book defines itself as Prajatantrik Aandolanko Anweshanatmak ra Anusandhanatmak Itihas. The book has 854 pages. It starts with ancient history of Nepal and concludes with a brief touch on Royal Palace incident of June 1st. It also has many rare pictures, such as Dharahara, Ghantaghar before 1990 B.S. earthquake, aerial view of Kathmandu in 1915 A.D., Khariko Rukh in Tudikhel, Sinhamahal (prime minister's residence before Singha durbar) in 1920 A.D...etc. The book claims that it has tried to include many those unsong heroes and incidents who/which didn't have place they deserved in the history written so far. I am enjoying the book. I recommend it to anyone interested in the history of Nepal. sparsha

Namita, I am not sure if the book (Aajako Nepal) is sold in the US book stores. The author was at my place a couple of weeks ago and gave the book as a gift. I am so grateful to him. He himself spent few years in jail during the movement for democracy. So, it's not a book a foreigner wrote on Nepal living somewhere else. Anyway, the author's son (a friend of mine) lives in Manchester, NH. I will be glad to give you his contact info. if you are interested. sparsha

Dear Sparshaji: Thanks for the info. It is so obvious that most of us have misinterpreted recording of our history here:-) It looks like unless we don't have sizable Nepali community here, our books are not going to be sold in US bookstores.I always ask people coming from Nepal to bring one or two interesting book(s).They come handy a lot of times even here.

Sparsha Ji and Those Who May Be Concerned, Sparsha Ji, my heartfelt appreciation on bringing "Aaja Ko Nepal" to GBNC web site. My father, the author of the book has brought some books with him. He is now visiting me here in the United States. I have been getting calls from Nepali living in this country to buy this book and running out of stock. However, some more books will be shipped to me soon. If anyone is interested to buy one, please give me a call at (603) 591-3644 or E-mail me at adhikasu@hotmail.com
