$18.7 million US grant for power development
The United States Friday gave Nepal a grant of $18.7 million to develop hydropower in the private sector.

Altogether $10 million will be invested in environmentally and socially sustainable hydropower development while $8.7 million will be used to strengthen governance of natural resources and selected public and private institutions including some constitutional bodies and line agencies of the government.

This in all proabablity was an agreement made much earlier. Well, America is a generous country. There no point in ga-ga-ing its generosity.

I have deep sympathy for what Americans are going through, but at same time somewhat disturbed at the self-congratulatory American discourse that has overwhelmed the nation since Sept 11.

This makes leaders of trigger-happy cowboys who could do well to delve deep into complexities that lie at the roots of Muslim fundamentalism.
