Hi

I would like to get an idea about the modern day attitudes to divorced men and women in Nepal - are they accepted in society or are they seen as something shameful?

Its in transition. So, mixed feelings. In Urban areas who cares
who divorced whom, male or female.

While in Village, have you ever heard any divorce? The Divorce
is favorable to woman only when they are economically independent.
Even educated women get marry to a man who has not divorced
his first wife, polygamy is open and accepted. Back yard,
kura kattne is Asian tradition, not only in Nepal, the divorced
women have hard time at least now.

While woman in Nepal don't have opposite
freedom, i.e. a male with two wives has free access to both
woman .. .. and a woman who married to second male, have
automatically left first husband provided its open affairs, the
phrase as we know "=POILA JANE". Being its male dominated
world (practically), they don'T have equivalent phrase to male
counterpart.

As you must have
read a news, where two girls married each other,
Deepa and Sapna (uniSexual Marriage), and police
took them in custody, including Mr. Lama.

It will be matter of time. Till 1973, the particular
item exclusively used by woman was considered
a sacred thing and not acceptable in TV advertisements,
when one great TV dramaactress cum singer aired
herself in TV with the ITEM, then, peoples opposed, but,
gradually the opposiing generation faded away and
new generation is accepting the ads. as means of
selecting the best brand for their use.

In Nepal, we get tech. and other things via ship till
Calcutta, then, land transport to Nepal and its so slow,
the Ads. for DHAL is now banned in TV and radio by
ministry of com. and info., so, we need some great
dedicated peoples who can sacrifice their public image
for certain time and bring new level of acceptance.

Lets talk on Arzu Rana, she in her interview with NT, said
that she was not sure to whether to wear Kurtha Surwal
in public after marriage with Deuba, or not? How peoples
will feel? Well, at least in Kathmandu, to day, married
girls and middle aged woman use Sari and KurthaSurwal
alternatively, with less hesitation. I guess my observation
is not wrong. Next generation might wear Jeanst pants
in public even after marriage, its evolution. Revolution
is something Mrs. H. Yami who wears pants, but, condems
Beauty contests or fashion shows. How do you think
on such women?

We all peoples are in some degree Radical or in other issues
fundamentalist or in rest issues oppertunists? Our scales
vary on looking them, and its same towards Divorced women,
too.

Poila Jane: Opposite could be " Joila Jane". I heard this when I was very young.
