It is tiresome to see Paras in media these days. KOL people seems to be specially
enamored with him. He waves at us from Indrachouk, he sports military fatigues,
and he smiles. The same media he loathed, he eschewed, and was allegedly
hounded by has been key to his strategy to win over populace.

Paras has been our gateway to royal palace. No other royal boy was so much
controversial, and vulnerable to media retrievers. Dhirendra was, probably. But
Basundhara, Himalaya, Gyanendra, Nirajan etc these people lived aloof life as
prince. Some were indulgent, some were intelligent. Paras is entirely different. His
deeds gave excuse for our republicans to vent their anger against royals. I read
with horror how MAALE freaks (namely Rup Narayan Shrestha, Tendi Sherpa type
people who terrorized KTM with their fanatical brand of politics) tried to cash in on
the felonies of Paras. These two extreme evils occupied our media with their
abstract and relentless rivalry and buffonery.

Though it is important to forget royals, and wean media attention away from them
as soon as possible, and focus ourselves on our mundane popular politics, we
haven't been able to do so. Notably, and ironically, such attempt seems to be
stemmed from royal palace. It is surprising, and also sad, that media these days
seems to not only bring EVERYBODY in Nepal within the gamut of its propaganda,
but also look giving impression that the fountain of power still is Royal Palace.

-------------------------

Postings here are too focussed on an individual these days.Such preoccupation
with one individual, and such dissection of one single individual only undermines
the purpose of this website, as long as I think.

First, Namita posts something against American leadership, which Ashu miscontrues
as posting against Capitalism and great American tradition. This misunderstanding
progresses, and rancour accrews after Ashu goes to comment section, and writes
about 'muddled thinking of Namita' while addressing San. Germany/Doctor episodes
also are recent revelation, because as a regular visitor of gbnc, I never knew
the German/doctor connection. If Ashu thinks such info are furnished by Namita
and are in public domain, then please give link.

But,finally, let's forget the whole episode. And start over again. We are all fallible
individuals, and we all make mistake. This site was more beautiful, and would be
more beautiful if we forget these 'family matters' and talk about our ideas,
brilliant or stupid, owned or anonymous.

My two cents only!

sunakhari Posted on 26-Sep-01 07:14 PM

Biswo,
I couldn't agree with you more on moving on and that is just what I had thought we all were doing - UNTIL I found Ashu's snide remarks!! If you read other postings - I have even gone on to encourage Ashutosh!!
I am just appalled!! This guy COULD NOT be real!!

On another note and to prove a point:-
I was wondering if anyone here read the new Time magazine where this one guy who has been arrested Moussaoui (spelling??) has been under the scrutiny of the FBI before the 11th incident. He had been asked by the French Government to be apprehended before the incident! Why did the FBI not look into that??What does it take for the FBI to hunt down these murderers??
All I read is that so and so had been on the watch list. What were they waiting for?? The irony of a free society and government!
I am just furious at this.

Look at the band of people fighting on this website on a single individual. This Ashu character is clearly not a unifying force. He seems to divide people at every opportunity. Learn something from Biswo, will ya?
anshu Posted on 27-Sep-01 09:38 AM

hi biswo,

Thank you. I hope when people grow up then will turn up like you: intelligent, wise, modest, resourceful, and the most important of all, forgiving. Even if it is Ashu who needs to be forgiven. Keep it up! This site is what it is because of pepole like you.
anshu Posted on 27-Sep-01 09:49 AM

oh biswo,

a long time ago you had posted something like trying to do ph.d. are you already in the program? why don't you share with us what you are learning? it would be refreshing to read what this study of yours involves. if you don't feel like sharing that is understandable. not everybody wants to go to a great length to tell people what they are doing in their spare time, where they are, who they are friends with etc. etc.
Biswo Posted on 27-Sep-01 11:22 AM

Hi everybody:

Thanks for nice words. Though it is unfortunate that while concurring with me here,
you all go to other threads and start doing what I requested you all not to do.

To Sunakhari's note: I think US Government also says the hijackers were in watch
list of FBI. I didn't know about this particular warning from French govt, but after
a mega-incidence, such kind of 'i said you so..' are very common.

To Anshu: I am in PhD already. As a PhD student, I am working on performance
and stability analysis of networking models. This is my first semester,
and I am working towards TCP/IP congestions now, from which I will study wireless
stability problems[ focussing on Markovian processes, and on deriving suitable Lyapunov functions ]. I tend to apply all these finally to the field of sensory
networking. My understanding is, gbnc forum should include something that
everybody understands, and since these things are basically useless to most of
our readers, let's limit ourselves on this much information. I also apologize to all
those who are offended by this info here. I also believe that Nepali students here
need a guild of graduate students,so that we can ventilate ideas among
ourselves. In researches, comraderie in publishing, or sharing ideas pays off. If
our readers in universities, esp if there are some working in this field in UTexas
(Austin), UCambridge(London), UHarvard (esp Professor Kung) which have some
real advance in this field, and in others where works related to this are going on, I
will appreciate their info very much. In long term, who knows, thanks to the
binding factor named GBNC, we may be making our own useful international
scientific society here.

I agree, of course, especially the "misconstrues" part By the way where do you read about this paras guy? is he on every newspaper in Nepal?
upperwestside Posted on 28-Sep-01 10:37 AM

Any spin doctors will tell you this: if you are facing public wrath, bury yourself, keep a low profile. All the more so, if you are going to be heir to the throne.

That's what the Clintons cleverly did when they left the White House in January. With voters apalled at their unfair use of public office to raise contributions, Hillary abandoned her high-profile ways in the Senate and hybby Bill confined himself in his house in upstate New York. These are smart people who have held public offices perhaps even before Paras Shah was born.

Months on, Bill Clinton is gradually increasing his media visiblility, and Hillary's popularity has now been restored. Paras should just keep away from the media for quite a while, given extreme public aversion. Democracy has little room for any ruler(s) who fail(s)s to gauge the public mood.

As for the media, I would personally be more than happen to see Paras banished unless it's a very, very newsworthy event. Who's he anyway. We have some great artists, poets, social workers and academics who would make our newspapers look more attractive.

The media, just as the palace, I hope feels the people's pulse.

Both have their responsibilities curt out. Palace has to work really hard to restore its dignity. Some of them, certainly King Birendra, may look like angels when compared to our corrupt politicians, but I were Gyanendra I would still ask Paras to shun limelight. And if public opinion continues to go against Paras, start looking for a bold alternative.

Hi NKji:

Paras has been featured in kantipuronline a lot of times. He reportedly had some
informal press gathering somedays ago, and complained that reporters hounded
him "too much". In fact, some weeks ago, one of the columnists of Kantipur
(Govinda (Adhikari?)) wrote that "press unfairly pursued the prince". Nobody
will ever believe such kind of defense.

The best defense is what UpperWestSideji said, just be quiet when the wind is
blowing in opposite direction. He shouldn't seek immediate redemption from his
all blemished, gory and execrable past. There is no short cut for him. He will
best serve himself if he quietly retires in his house, takes care of his wife ,raises his daughter and serves people in such a manner that people slowly start to think
that his past was aberration. After twenty or thirty years, probably half of nepal's
population will be formed by those people who never knew what Paras was like in
this 2050s.

Kings have two choices, they can be brutal and buried in the past, and they can
be benevolent and remembered in the future. A lot of great kings are those who
made mistake, and slowly realised that and corrected that.Yudhisthir was great
gambler who parlayed his wife in stake, Ram killed innocent Bali(the monkey) and
expelled another innocent Sita to the jungle, Ashoka was ruthless killer, and king
Tribhuvan was remembered for debauchery in his pre-2008 age.We remember
them for their corrected and better rule.
