Hi
NK Posted on 21-Nov-01 01:32 PM

Hey! I liked what ashu had to say. It was funny to hear his voice, it sounds exactly how it sounds in real time.

I was disappointed on one account: when the moderator (interviewer?) asked what does it indicate that now we, nepali are coming out and saying i don't like so and so book (even the so called 'ghagadan' book), written by reknown authors, the answer given by the interviewee was a bit wishy washy. I thought that was an excellent question. What do you all think?
_BP Posted on 22-Nov-01 06:12 AM

Ashu! I was extremely impressed to hear you...wow. You know, it has been almost fifteen years since I have seen or heard you, but the voice still sounds the same! And I really got a kick out of how articulate you are in Nepali. Not to mention your knowledge of Nepali literary works. How in the world do you get the time? Keep it up!

Hey BP, what do you mean "15 years"?
Didn't I come to visit you in DC once?
I still have the pictures.

Also, did you forget all those late-night phone
calls between Boston and New Jersey, talking
about a certain Miss Whoever?

And the time when you came up for a visit
to Boston . . .

Too many memories, but I guess what we happily
and most intensely remember were those days in
high school . . . days of rivalry, of camaraderie, of
working together, and, of course, having too
much fun.

I should also disclose to all that I actually learnt to
sign my name "oohi" from one of your letters, and
that 'sign off' has stuck with me since.

Oh, well . . . sorry, I am sharing some personal
info . . . so let me stop here. :-)

> How in the world
>do you get the time?

Well, if you don't go to an intensely focussed academic program
such as a medical school or, for that matter, an economics PhD program,
then, there you have, assuming you are motivated, time to pick up and
assimilate a lot of WIDER stuff from here and there :-)

Thank you NK for your comments.
I appreciate reading them.
I note your point, and will share my thoughts later in the kurakani section!

A very special thanks to Biswo for putting up that audio file here.

Have a great week-end guys; I am going to that Daxinkali overnight
hiking. See you all nest week.

Indeed Biswo deserves much kudos for putting up that audio file here, a very relevant resource in this section. It was nice to see people, especially good friends so involved in Nepali literature, given that our mode of communication here is English only. And Ashu, your memory is too good. Indeed, I have talked to you more recently than fifteen years. Ten years is more like it I suppose.

Biswo ji,

Great Piece. I think its a great topic they discussed
and top of all, its my first time to hear Ashutosh
Tiwari's sound, since I met him in internet probably,
via TND in 1993. Hey, Ashu, why not we get chance
to see your picture? I had never seen you, nor your
picture. Well, lets hope we can meet you at Martin
Choutari someday. Angrezi mahina ko Last Tuesday
at 5:30pm. It seems my next visit to Nepal, will
not let me visit your Martin Choutari. Anyway, I will
try next to next visit, to meet you personally.

I have few comments after hearing the discussions:

1. Who was the program anchor, Is he Dr. Pratyush Onta,
because I heard "Onta" somewhere in discussion.

2. Hey man (To Ashu) , your postings in SCN, TND or in Gbnc.org
have so many hyphens, but, in your voice, its so fluent and
No Pizza of English and Nepali Language, so smooth. No one
can believe that the man who almost always brings Sommerville
issue in these discussion forums be the guy with such
extraordinary fluent capability --no gaps i.e. no time to think --.

3. Ashu, you use "chai" quite frequently. Suggest to reduce the
frequency.

4. You have well said, "reject ideas, but, not person". Thats
great, peoples have difficulty to understand this fact, that
many nepali peoples in Japan too, ask "who are to say this and that?"
Whenever I wrote something in Nepali students' forum there is
one guy, who always asks "Why should I accept your comments?,
I will accept only if you are from that profession".

How wonderfully, you justified why Nepali Sahityakras should hear
reader's ( even first time reader's )voice too?

5. One thing I did not like on Sangita ji's comments is
"Teacher (?) bhanauda haru"? Though its her choice
of words, but, how polite you were througout the
interview, but, "BHANAUDA" word does not look good in her
comments. Because, I resigned from Teaching profession for 3
times, and again joined as 4th time. I don't think
those who give their comments as teacher, also have
their version, and should not be rejected as "BHANAUDA"
people said.

Thanks.

Errata!

Hi!

When I down loaded it again, I found Dr. Onta giving
his own introduction at the beginning, that I missed in
previous hearing via IE. It seems the sound is better
heard directly in Windows Media.

Sure.

Either at Martin Chautari or, after work,
at any Japanese restaurant where they serve
excellent tempuras and teriyakis :-), let us meet
and do guff-suff when you are next in Kathmandu.

People say that I look better in person than
in a photograph :-)

Thank you for pointing this out.
I will make a conscious effort to reduce
overusing "chai".

>4. You have well said, "reject ideas, but,

Yes.

But admittedly, that's easier said than done.
Still, my experience is that one CAN make conscious efforts
to look only at the validity of ideas and ideas alone.

Thanks, I have requested Sangita to visit this site
and add her comments too.
