Biswoji in a recent thread mentioned about how all the Nepalese were cheering with national flag in their hands when Nepal defeated another country in football. It is not surprising that Football Game (FIFA?) was nominated for Nobel Peace Prize. It's true that Football has become a Universal Peace Embassador as we watch and participate in the World Cup every four years.

National flag is a symbol of national unity and anyone carrying a flag is sure devoted to the well being of that nation. The feeling of representing a whole nation is very emotional. We can ask anyone who participated or won a medal in a game how he or she felt while the national flag is waving and national anthem is being sung.

However, in our own country, we have lost the lusture of all these things. We never felt our national flag as our heart. Here in the US, we can see every single American carrying a US flag and crying everywhere "God Bless America". We do also have our national flag, we do also have our own "Jay Nepal". But see how they have been devaluated.

Before 1990, national flag was a symbol of beurocracy. There used to be some enforcement to wear Nepali Dhaka Topi while entering to the CDO's Office which carried a big national flag in the front. We were never taught what our flag meant to us nor were we taught what Dhaka topi meant to us. Since they were not infiltrated to our blood, we lost their meaning. When we threw over the Panchayati system, we burnt its effigy with the national flag. Since then we can't see any national flag in people's meeting. Only "Char Tara" and "Hasiya-Hathaunda" is seen in a rally of Congressi or a Communit party. We are always reminded that we are Congressi or Communist or something first than being Nepali in first place. Every single party in Nepal name it Nepal or Rastriya ............. Party (Nepali Congress, Nepal Communist Party, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepali Sadvawana PartY) but where is its desprem? Each of them is competing to loot our national treasury for the benefit of the party.

"Jay Nepal". It could be the equivalent of what Americans say "God Bless America". Look at the difference of depth of feeling. When you say "Jay Nepal" in Nepal, you are pure congressi parrot, not a nepali citizen. So far as I rely on my IQ, "Jay Nepal" was first used by Shukra Raj Shastri, our martyr in 1997. What would his soul be thinking (may his soul rest in peace) how the word, once he used while uniting all Nepali against autocratic Ranas, has become a symbol of division among the Nepali citizens.

We never happened to be Pro-Nepali, we never worked out anything for the national interest. We throw stones who carries national flag, we call Pratikriyabadi who call Jay Nepal, we call ourselves Commrade and say Lal Salam in stead of Namaste. We accuse of another Nepali being Pro-Indian or Pro-Chinese. Who does not belong either of these pro...... is a Mandale.
