A bald gangling man who was raised in the house of one of the greatest example
of resistance in Nepal never inspired most of his compatriots . He got chances,
but squandered them. He got chances to unite Nepal, but always divided them.
He has no sons, a single daughter, yet he never resisted the inordinate temptation
to hoard property, esp national property. His pilferage and avarice landed a proud
national aviation to the verge of bankruptcy, but that never instructed him any
lesson.

He waved the poster of democracy and hoodwinked his countrymen to accept the
oligarchy of his clansmen. He brushed aside his comrades of struggle days and
pushed his mediocre group of relatives to the center of power. He always hold in
contempt the minority. He singlehandedly ruined the economic and political
situation of country. He discharged those civil servants who expressed dissent to
his style. He cashiered those workers who went on to strike using their civil right.

Girija Prasad Koirala, a man of many vices.

It is interesting to know what he is doing behind the curtain these days. His party
is now filled with his henchmen. Govinda Raj Joshi is new Mahamantri. His brothers
and sisters and in-laws packed the central committee of NC. He is now
threatening Deuba to terminate the peace talk. This man is definitely trying to
be prime minister again, by employing whatever means available. A single most
factor of division in our nation, this old leader , as is evident increasingly, is one
of the most prominent cause of nation's political evil,a major cause that is
weakening popular faith in democracy. The man who became prime minister for
four times has no legacy to boast on. The man who can be safely termed as the
most important evil factor that caused the deterioration of democratic value of our
society.

Let's see how far he can drive Nepali Congress in his own way. Meanwhile, let's hope mass judgement will prevent this man to achieve what he is hoping for.
Otherwise, NC will never be synanomous of democracy.

Aptly put Biswo ji!!

How sad it is that someone with such opportunity has done so little with it. And how sad and absolutely unforgivable that someone entrusted with so much trust and power is misusing it to such horrible consequences. I have always wondered why it is that we Nepalis seem to be so easily divided. Why do we allow people like Girija and others to morally and politically bankrupt us? What can be done? Is there no hope for a true democratic movement of the people that does not result in bloodshed or yet another reshuffling of the powermongers? Is it our feudal history? the disparity among the poor and rich? It is our culture and religion? Maybe a combination of all. But really I am very interested to hear from folks what a possible solution could be. What can be done?!

Hi all:

I think Girija has a big problem. May be psychological. He feels unsecure when he
sees somebody else in the power. He has no legacy to boast on, though he was
in power for so long.If there is a single person we can single out for our woes
in post democracy era, it is Girija.
kale Posted on 01-Nov-01 11:38 AM

Girija is man with old body and dirty mind, he does not have any interesst to see nepal persporrity...only thing he sees is Priminister chair. how sad it is, after working decades for democracy...if he was honest and if he did everything fair and from his heart...where we would be now. He always has been doing dirty poltics, he does not care abt dignity, honesty of his fellows ...all he need man like Govindra raj joshi. He can't see popularity of any leaders inside his own party, he could not see popularity of Ram chandra poudal so he brought up Govindra Raj Joshi who is from same district as Ram Chandra. Same thing Tarin chautaut from west for Sher bahadur Debuba but it did not work...now he is hidding him. Girija could not see popularityhonesty of Dr mahat than he started to pull up Arjun Narshing KC......so on. so he is boss of corrupted people in his own party, boss of govindra raj joshi, how did he get all those property in last 10 yeares, i know he used to live in rent in his fist MP in 2048. he is boss of Tarini dut chatuat....WE DON'T NEED U GIRIJA ANYMORE....GO TO HELL, AND PLZ TAKE UR DIE HEART FOLLOWER TOO...

Girija, I think, misses being a PM. The old leaders (70+) still can't give up their hold on power (Girija still the Congress chief) in favor of younger (slightly) generation.

Compared to Girija,I think, Deupa is doing fine.

I do not see any good sign in Deuba and co either. He seems to have a sense of insecurity and lack of political culture. Let us not forget this is the same person who introduced bad culture to our political system and he hasn't changed this time too. Isn't it a high time we need to establish a democratic culture in our system? NC ( or any other party for that matter) is no more a party of people with ethics and values but a gathering of a bunch of opportunistic people. A group of people fight with maoists to become a mantri; another group shake hand with them to become a mantri. The objective is same- to become a mantri, to take bribes, to become rich with every illegal means. I think the crux of the problem is this attitude of our Society. Political and legal system should be strong and democratic to change the society. The people who are supposed to strengthen the system are the ones fighting for their own causes and how will things change? I think there will be an ever ending fights in Nepal: Girija vs Deuba, Nepal Vs Oli, Chand Vs Thapa; Prachanda Vs Baburam.

"Girija" has now not become only a name of a person, it has become an attitude in every politicians of ours.
GIRIJA-- the name says itself.

Hi,

I see enuf of hatred against Girija. That's fine.

Being a total novice in the political arena, I see this as no fault of Girija. However, I don't support him for his attitudes THAT PUSHED THE poor country further down the drains during the days they reigned the most.

I think its fair for him to want to regain the power. Isn't every politician destined/dreams for ultimate power to rule the country? and the implications of his/her political agendas. Its sad indeed that he did not think for the benefit of
country. Honestly I feel he is not the single factor to be taken into account but the whole gang who support him, nominate him, elect him and accept him for his actions.

His actions of Nepotism for his personal and familial benefits are not the isolated cases. Only that has the power has the power to abuse them.
See the Arabian countries where the General, Ministers, Ambassadors are all "the royals"or royal relatives. No wonder the country like Saudi Arabia which pumps millions of barrels of oil has debt of more than 200 billion dollars.

My point is: The tendencies of GP is quite natural to be in power, once his profession is politics and his aim to be in the top most position, all the time;
I have no objection to that. My objection is "they (Girija and his followers) did not do to the country what they could have done."

Isn't is sad to see such a corrupt,non-creative,merciless (to the country)
old guy, hated by many come to power time and again and @#$% the country? He is shrewed clever and tactful. The rest, you,me and his blind supporters are the fools and apathetic or indifferent (choose one), yet spill occasional fraustrations.

Just a thought.
