What options are there for a person living abroad if he/she goes back to Nepal? This is a follow up forum from the talk program "Pharkera Ke Painchha" which was organized by GBNC at MIT on January 15, 2000, moderated by Kanak Mani Dixit and Shanta Dixit

Hi, I saw your homepage on 6th of feb,I found it very interesting. we should aware about your own potentiality and future goal. if we are really interested to live in aboard, we must think about every aspect of our future life, What we may do for the furere generation.apart from non residental nepleases. In the sameway we should think what would be our contribution to the our own country. IF you think You can do some thing better to the nation and that motivate you to go back to nepal. you should go back to nepal other wise up to you. I think we can have better physical and material life in developed countries, but that is the only think which motivate you to live then you can live where ever you like.

The discussion also urged Nepalese living abroad to consider their level of happiness in the foreign culture/context. Quite a few people go abroad in their late teens or early twenties and it's easier for them to adjust to the foreign culture than people going abroad in their late twenties or thirties.
I think if one plans to live abroad, one should weigh the level of cultural and social satisfaction one can get as well as the financial gains in staying in the foreign country. If the stay is not personally rewarding at all, but financially better off, then it's time to reconsider going back home!
