What follows is a from a social activist friend from Cambridge, Mass. oohi ashu ktm, nepal ********************* If you have a FAX machine or can print and send an international airmail letter, now’s the time. Your action today could help save the life of Tibetan musician Ngawang Choepel. Ngawang, a Fulbright scholar and ethnomusicologist, was given a very harsh 18 year prison sentence by Chinese officials. His crime? Videotaping traditional Tibetan musicians and dancers. President Bush will travel to meet with the Chinese premiere on September 20, so your letter of support could help turn the tide for Ngawang and his grieving mother, Sonam Dekyi. I met his mother during her first trip to the U.S. three years ago. I helped organize several fund raisers, peace vigils and other media events at Harvard and in some surrounding towns with Amnesty International and the local Tibetan community. Eugene Louie, Mercury news photographer and journalist, flew out from San Jose to continue documenting her journey and plight. Read more about Ngawang and Sonam and view the video interview I made during her visit at Dirck Halstead’s website (he is a photojournalist for Time magazine): www.digitaljournalist.org/issue9904/diary9.htm Or go to www.savetibet.org for further information. Ngawang is our brother, father, uncle, fellow musician. Please take a minute to sign and send/FAX the attached letter. It could save his life. Yours sincerely, Ruthie Ristich -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Skydancer Productions 375 Kingstown Road Narragansett RI 02882 401-783-2953 41 William Street Cambridge MA 02139 617-828-6097-cell
