An Urgent Appeal to all Nepali Brothers and Sisters (living inside and outside the Nation) Date: 3 June, 2001 Dear Brothers, Sisters and Friends It may be the first time, I am sending you this Appeal through email. Not only you, this appeal is sent to more than ten thousands Nepali Brothers and Sisters living in Nepal and foreign countries. Your name and email address is listed at our email alerts and we will send you the appeals, news and more information about our country Nepal. We know all that our King Birendra, Queen Aishwerya, King Dipendra and all their family were assassinated at the dangerous gun massacre which took place in Royal Palace on night of 1 June, 2001. This news is tearful for us which we can never imagine. Our King, who provided us the love and prosperity; who saved us and our Nepal; who gave us the Democracy and human rights; who is not smaller than our own father has left us. Our Eyes become tearful when we remember him and his family. Our salute always goes towards him in whole of our life. Go to top This we know, our king is not with us. But, let we think that why is he not with us ? Why did he leave us ? Why did he leave the Nation ? Not only the King, why the whole royal family left the Earth ? This is, because they became the victim of dangerous gun massacre in royal palace. But, how did this kind of angerous massacre take place ? It is the serious matter. The Newspaper and many foreign medias are disseminating the news that the late Crown Prince Dipendra shot his parents including his brother and sister and other senior members of his family becoming unsatisfied with the matter of his mother (the late Queen Aishwerya) about his marriage and his bride. Is it true ? Can we think so ? Can we imagine this kind of behavior of our late King Dipendra ? I think, no ! I mean, I can't believe that our late crown prince Dipendra shot our late King and Queen. Not only I, but also almost Nepali people don't think it and don't believe on this matter. We the Nepali people respect our King as an incarnation of the Lord Vishnu, and we can't suspect on any matter to our King. We believe that the King does no wrong at all. And so, we can never imagine and believe that our King may do wrong and may be murderer. If not, who shot all ........? Who is hiding behind this massacre ?! It is the matter of mystery and concern for all of us. This massacre is only one biggest massacre in the history of Nepal. We have read and heard about Kot Massacre, but it is too bigger than Kot Massacre. It may be one of the rarely incident in the world too. The eyes of the world is in Nepal at this time.I On 4 June, 2001; the Royal Council has coroneted HM Gyanendra as the king of Nepal. But, many people here are not recognizing HM Gyanendra as the king. So, the demonstrations took place inside Kathmandu valley. And so, the Government declared 'Curfew in Kathmandu valley and other parts of the Nations for three days. More than six innocent Nepali people lost their lives during the Curfew. The Situation of our Nation is that what will happen when no one can say. What action will HM Gyanendra take, and what will happen, people are fearing. Some senior journalists were arrested by the Police for publishing just an Article of Dr. Baburam Bhattarai (Senior Leader of CPN-Maoist). The rights of press is being violated. After this all, every one can imagine that the democracy and human rights in Nepal is in too danger. At this situation of the Nation, I request all our Brothers and Sisters to be always ready to take Action for the protection of human rights and democracy. I request you all to raise your voices (from inside and outside the Nation) for the protection of democracy and human rights. Specially for the Brothers and Sisters residing outside Nepal, I request you all to leave your works for some time and move to save our Nation and Democracy. You can do better from there. Please, raise your voice there. The Democracy and human rights may be collapsed, and the future of all of us may be fully dark. Be aware always in any incident in Nepal and take urgent actions. 'If our Nation is lost, our identity and we will be lost', let you keep this truth in your mind. If any serious incident is happened here, I mean if the democracy and human rights is collapsed, we, the people will be responsible for this. Let we be united and move for peaceful movements to save our Nation, Democracy and Human Rights. Our country is the Country of Lord Buddha and Mt. Everest. The World people love us because of these identities. But, if the Nation is recognized as the land of terrorists, murderers, black marketers, frauds, etc. we will not get any space to put our legs in any country of the world. 'Our identity is our Motherland, so if our motherland is assassinated we all will die'. Our King and all his family is assassinated which is also not smaller than the assassination of our motherland. So, let we be aware of this matter. Let we save our Motherland. Let we move to save Democracy handled us by our late king Birendra. Let we move to make our Nation 'the Zone of Peace' as directed by our late King Birendra. Dear Brothers and Sisters ! It is the time to act ! Not just think ! Don't be late ! Act immediately ! Move immediately ! Awake all my brothers and sisters ! And Act now ! I am always with you. Your Brother Milan Karki President Human Rights and Peace Campaign (HURPEC) Nepal URLs: http://www.hurpec.org/royalmassacre/ Note: This Appeal is sent to all the Nepali Brothers and Sisters living inside and outside Nepal. It is sent to more than 20 thousands persons through email.

Dear Milan jee, you had been writing a lot of pyramid schemed letters in private emails collecting all possible Nepali surnames and given names. I replied to you. You are raising some ugly comments against Current King Gyanendra and trying to prove that what BRB had written is true and justifiable. I don't think your evidence or logics work here, to portray that Gyanendra as main villian or anyone else. Come up with solid evidence. Ranabhat's report does not give conclusion, and that is why the whole cynic mass did not get any issue to agitate peoples in the name of Gyanendra, and the report. Gyanendra was talent enough to ask MAKUNE to be part of investigation team, and in fact, Gyanendra screwed up MAKUNE very nicely , if MAKUNE was not requested and was in Free position, he would have surely vandalized the country after the report appeared to us. As they did in Madan Bhandari Case. I can feel confidence on Gyanendra when he genuinly and cleverly asked MAKUNE to be part of the committee, and he realized that without MAKUNE, without NC NO Problem, the report could be trashed or fired on KTM roads. I really hat off on his first job after crowing second time. I still keep my reservation on Paras. Its TKP/KPub that plays political Game of UCHALNE BAJARNE to any one including Maoists, King, Paras and me too. BTW, if you are human rightists why don't you speak a word when Maoists kill peoples and extort money. You are no less than PRT, for me. Or else, you do not smell money in that way. Jai Nepal. GP

Exactly, GPji. With this second appeal, Milanji's organization has reduced itself to the level where it can't be taken seriously anymore. The whole question of all these conspiracy theorists is this: how can a son kill his father? And this is the time when we must be realistic and ask: "Why did a son kill his father? and How can this be prevented in future?" After watching the histrionics of Padma Ratna , and reading these appeals designed purely to serve one political party or opinion, it is safe to say that a lot of our human right organizations have both black and white part (50:50). I mean, where is the report and the socalled deep study that says June 1 was conspiracy? And if it is not ready, why is it declared first? Is this standard methodology? How serious we should be in this issue, and how serious we are? At least, Ranabhat gave something. Conspiracy theorists could read the report and say,'nah. This is not true. How come he drink first, and unable to sleep, and then vomit, and take gun, and ratatata..fire?' I am not a cynic. I believed most of that report. But I always hoped that more study is done by serious people from popular level so that we know more truth. By not giving their report, and appealing to callow emotionalism, HURPEC has convinced ,probably, very few persons, or only those who wanted to hear what it said.

Hi guys, Actually, believe it or not, Milan -- who I do NOT know personally -- is one of the more tame human rights activists around. You should see and meet others in Nepal . . . who are even worse in terms of the rigor of their thought processes and ideas. And these people are so sure of their being right, they refuse (like our Marxist friends) even to entertain different opinions . . . Though I was polite and nice in that "5 questions to Milan Karki" thread earlier, I have long been convinced, especially after the Kamaiya work last year, that human rights activism in Nepal, if it is to have any impact, has to be SAVED from Nepal's own variously splintered and hopelessly muddled human rights activists -- who are high on strident emotionalism and low on philosophical clarity as to why they do what they do. These people do not want debates and discussions. For them, either you are for human rights or you are against it . . . and their world-view is hopelessly narrow and reptilian. On another note, I understand that Jogendra Ghimire, the smart and young Secretary at the ill-conceived National Human Rights Commission recently resigned. His reason: There was NOTHING to do at the Commission but politics. Despite all this, I still think that their sincerity (even if it's misguided) can still be mined to be put together with logic, reason and evidence so that they become more credible and trustworthy in the public's eyes. Let us see how things go. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

I thought you would find this an interesting read. I don't know how accurate this report is, but it definitely touches upon topics some people feel have been swept under the carpets. http://www.daijhi.com/laipatra28.htm http://www.daijhi.com/laipatra30.htm Cheers

Ashu, thanks. I wasn't aware of Jogendra Ghimire's resignation as secretary of Human Rights Commission. I would definitely like to congratulate Mr. Ghimire. Why hang on to the job if there's nothing to do? I know tens of these ministers in the new cabinet will tenaciously cling to their job just for the heck of it - perks and privilege, and not to talk of the under the table incentives - are their prime conern. Well done, Jogendra.
