I think we should ask families in Boston if they would like to make food for the party. The making of the food should be on GBNC's expenses. I think this way we will be savings lots and lots of money. And at the same time give some incentive to the family like ...they can join the party for free or something along that line. It is not a bad idea and all of us will get to eat authentic Nepali food instead of Indian food. Let's be independent.

GBNC members pls reply. I can take the initiative of asking families if they are interested.

It is just my humble suggesstion.

Thanks

An excellent idea!! Nothing like a nepali homemade khasi ko maasu and aalu ko aachar...
GBNC should consider this suggestion before it's too late.

I think this is an excellent idea. We should really do this and I think we would have more fun too.

Just a suggestion for GBNC.....
If you can do some work, you guys will find sponsors to give you some money and that can help you to pay for the food preparation. May be a fund raiser could have helped you if people were willing to give some time. Maybe its too late now. I'm sure the Nepali families who are settled in Boston area could provide you with substantial funds if you are willing to work with them.

Suggestion for others is that instead for complaining, come up with better ideas. Personally i think $15 is not that big of an amount for a celebration like Dasain, that is once a year.

enjoy

Hi,

Good idea but is it viable? who would not love to have the home style cooking?

Can you cook masu, achar, bhat, tarkari for say 150 people? Even cooking a dish would require lots of time and effort.

If its a potluck type of thing when all the attandant bring certain thing for limited number of people then its fine. Who would have the big croceries for cooking in such large scale? or cook tens of times. It will be like preparing for the parties in Nepal.

I commend for those who dare to cook in this massive scale. More incentives should be given than just free admission to those who are willing to commit.

I'm not talking about a single family preparing all the dishes. It'll be more like 1 family prepares 1 dish; so if we have 8 dishes then it will be 8 family altogether who will prepare these dishes. I mean it sounds viable to me and yes asking family to do this does take an effort but i think it's worth it. Also, i don't think GBNC can afford to provide more incentives than offering them a free ticket along with all the cost for making food. Ofcourse everyone involve will have to take into a consideration that GBNC is a NGO.

Divide and rule? you cook for 150peoples ? Why not
you divide the work, at least leaders of the GBNC can
find like minded group, and motivation is the most important
factor.

2 years back here in Japan. The students association named
NESAJ, wanted to organize the Dashain party in Tokyo's Central
and most famous Park : Harajuku Koen. They could cook food
for more than 100s of peoples in just 2-3 hours renting a kitchen
thats in a public ceremony hall. Its just the male-female everyone
was working in such a great spirit, I was surprised. I had been
invited and requested to help TRANSPORT the cooked food
to the Park about 35KM away from the kitchen. I came there
from another 60km far distance. They prepared the main
dishes, and requrested all other participants to bring additional
foods at least enough for themselves. Well, when we all
gathered, the colorful food, variety and was amazingly delicious
and with wide taste to suit all kinds of peoples. Meanwhile,
there were some singles who could not cood food brought
the drinks they thought appropriate.

So, my experience is that the organizers if can prepare
the main items, and if you manage to get everyone
bring the foods they like, it will be great party. I guess
you might be doing this type party for long, but, I am
letting you know this is not a bad idea. The cost reduces
substantially and taste is fablous.

Wishing you a good party.
