I was reading an article by KPS Gill in India Today in which he termed US operation in Afganistan 'USS clueless' for the incongruity, and confusion in US leader's current speeches regarding Afgan Intervention. I am also surprised that they are talking about Ramdan, and Winter halt in assault. Did World War II against Hitler and his clique stopped for Christmas? For Winter? What about this Anthrax scare perpetrated by these terrorists? Is there any guarantee that these anthrax won't be mailed in Christmas? After losing thousands of innocent people, talking about any concession to Taliban and their murderer gang in any pretext, to me, seems very very confusing policy. |

Hi just got some time to write something. Biswo, I don't know about bombing. do you want US to bomb like what they did in Cambodia? What is wrong being sensitive? You know the muslim coalition. you don't want them to be too angry. it is a different kind of war as we all know. somebody hides some crimnal and somebody has to go to kill the "hider." and funny enough these hiders happen to be your long lost pal. weird weird world. about anthrax. to tell you the truth, i am also scared. not the hyperventillating kinda scared but Dull. It is there, always present but not strong enough to do something about it. everytime i go to the airport this fear comes to me. what if? i see my mail and i ask myself what are the chances i will get this anthrax virus. I tell ya, to live in a terror is a very unhealthy thing. I wonder about israelis more often now and of course about palestinian too ( i have to be politically correct :)). so what do we do? I guess just live. when the time comes it will come. |

Dear NK: Who is fighting against Moslem coalition? The fight is against terrorists, and evil. I think one should always fight against evil . Evil has no Christmas, no Ramadaan. I don't know if Arab nations object this. I think they shouldn't. They too are plagued with the evils caused by these fundamentalists.I don't see any respite necessary for terrorists. They will only organize themselves, and that means more danger to coalition forces fighting against them. Also, I don't see any similarity between Vietnam and Afganistan. The former was too some extent an aggressive act for which US better repent sooner or later. Afgan terrorists have killed innocent peopel working in their desk in New York, and it is flagrant voilation of international norm. I think it is time to make broad coalition and strike the terrorists severely. |

Dear Biswo, Like it or not, the terrorists happen to be muslim and the country "harboring" them is muslim. We all know US and the rest of the world want to fight against terrorism. But if a fanatic (bin laden) makes these terrorist act a case against muslim vs. non believers and believe me, there are plenty of muslims who think they are up against the EVIL, i.e. US and Israel, and want to take up the arm. Blood goes deeper than one likes to think. Otherweise Bush would not be going to mosque to make a point and would not have invited sukaroputri from indonessia even before he started to bomb afganistan. Therefore, my friend ,US does not want to bomb in their holy month and on Fridays. you don't want to alienate the angry bunch, do you? There is nothing about being clueless. I would give other examples of US being clueless but not this. Looks absurd on the face of it but this is an absurd situation. |

I just wonder what all this is going to come to. Obviously one can's stop the everydays tasks of going to work and opening the mail, but like NK said, simple acts now are disconcerting. Personally, I feel such a loss for Afganishtan and its people. As much as I'd like to see these evil jerks stopped (the terrorists... I object to "Afghani Terrorist"... they are terrorists from all over the world really... just that they are in Afghanistan right now), the bombings in Afganistan I feel will not do anything other than make the sufferings of the ordinary Afghanis' life even more acute, and of course alienate and piss off the crazy Jihadis. Bin Laden and his lot are obviously totally taking advantage of the situation and these people's sense of honor and loyalty to him as a mujahadeen fighter who helped fight off the Soviets and as a fellow Muslim who says he is doing what he does for the good of all muslims. But how stupid are theseTalibans. And how completely inhumane... somehow that does not even seem to figure into the picture. I guess if you believe if you're fighting a just and holy war, human suffering and death seems a tad unimportant. But I have to say some of these folks gotta they are not in a holy war, but are being manipulated or that they are engaging in a war for sick power shtick? Maybe not. But really, NK your point that it woudl be better not to alienate these people, in my opinion there is nothing anyone can do to alienate or piss off Bin Ladin and his cohorts anymore than they already are. They have already made up their mind. They don't give a rat patootie about people really. And no body can convince them not to do what they are going to keep doing.... terrorizing and victimzing civilians. You are right, it really is a very adsurd situation. and terribly firghtening really. I am so nervous about going to work on the metro everyday and think what if some freak dusts anthrax on the trains or the hand rail of the escalator. anyhow...such is life. |

Dear NK: May be our focal point differed. You think not bombing in religious fiesta is an act of expediency, probably to appease Moslem of rest of the world. My focus is kinda different. I don't think US needs to propitiate slogan-happy strike-happy bunches from Pakistan to Indonesia.US has lost its thousands of sons/daughters and she needs to do all it can to prevent such tragic accidents in future. I read a few reports in Pakistani media about how much Afgans are tired of these fedayeen from Arab nations. To think that US bombs have accrewed to the pains of these Afgans is misunderstanding. These people are crying for peace and elusive halcyon days since USSR intervention. They were living in poverty, fear, draught and privation since long ago, and if anything, swift and sustained US attack and proposed multinational rehabilitation program once Taliban is out of power there will only help them.Do you think they are happy living in the shadow of foreign Al Qaeda terrorists? Will any Nepali be happy , for example, living in the domination of Shiva Sena groups in Nepal? We must respect the sentiment of Afgan people also. They want to get rid of those terrorists. So, I hope that US goes to war ruthlessly and relentlessly, and bring Al Qaeda and Bin Laden to justice, so that people will learn lesson. Of course, it won't end the cycle of violence and terrorism, but it would teach a lesson to stave off such incident for a considerable length of time to come. And probably it would also give Afgan people an opportunity to be in the fold of civlized world again. |

what is wrong with their demands: i. remove us troops from saudi, ii. stop supporting isrealis, and iii. remove sansaction against iraq?? don't you think us has to review us foreign policy and let every nation function freely? if the bin laden group was as strong as the us, i don't think they would have choosen the terrorist path. i think they are weak and yet fighting for reveng3e. |

really, if we all sit together and have a chat about the situation, i am sure we will agree on most of the things we all are saying here. it is just that you write a paragraph and somebody picks up on it and focus on one thing out of the whole paragraph and writes. and so and so forth. just one small, may i say, correction? when i said alienating the angry bunch i did not mean The Fanatic, but the disillusioned moslems of the world. also again, i don't see any different what the US did in cambodia (not vietname, please make distinction) and what Bin Laden did in WTC. btw just to remind ourselves again, who has killed innocent civilians more than any other courntry in any war so far that had been fought? |

Everybody's so friggin' worried about upsetting the muslim world...hmm, I wonder, did the terrorists piss of the western world at all by killing 6,000 of them in NY? Or is the west not allowed to get pissed off because at least the the WTC wasn't destroyed during a major holiday? BP |

What's wrong with the terrorists demands? Because what you hear is not all of their demands. Who thinks that there can exist a nice pure Islamic state? Look at the closest thing the world has come to --> the Taliban. Hey, communism is a good idea if it works perfectly, but we know nothing is perfect, and when not, things can become pretty lousy. And how can any woman who knows any freedom agree with those fundamentalists? Come on, the US is the most powerful nation on earth because its people ARE from all over the world. The Hindus, Muslims etc in the US are some of the most patriotic Americans, because they appreciate the american dream. Anybody who opposes the US in general is opposing the international community. Hi, When a shopkeeper sells T-Shirts encrypted with bin laden in KTM gets arrested by the police: but a responsible chairman of upper house (Muhammad Mohsin) committs himself to become mujahiddin for support and even wants to die for the cause of Islam, no reactions against him! |

Didn't war between Iraq and Iran lasted over a year .. all through all kinds Muslim holidays? Do you really think Northern Alliance and Taliban will stop fighting during Ramadan? Didn't Kashmiri militants continued killing inncocent people in Kashmir even during Ramadan when India announced cease fire during Ramadan and extended for a longer period? What about Chechan rebels in Russia? Will there be a truce Russia and and Chechans during Ramadan? Of course, i do not even want to mention never-ending Israel-Arab econflict. So much for Muslim Holidays! |
