The Pilgrim
by Laxmi Prasad Devkota

To which temple do you go? In whose
company?
What presents do you take
to offer to your lord?
Mounted on the shoulders of men
towards which land of God do you journey?
..........
........
He kisses hands and touches brows
of those who do selfless work.
From the roadside, he sings with birds
he speaks through the voice of men
in sorrow and pain. Yet he eludes
the eyes of mortals made of skin.
So at which temple will you search for him?

in which stranger’s land?
Return, return and touch the feet of men
ease their wounds and
bring a smile upon those lips divine.

This above is copied and pasted from Chakrapath.com website. A similar version appeared in the first issue of Spiny Babbler (NEPAL). Would anyone have any information on the FIRST REAL translation of YATRI, with verifiable names of translators and publications of translated versions?

Probably, SOAS professor Michael Hutt's book "Voices from the Himalayas" or something like that would have translations of Devkota's poems -- this and others.
