I hope someone with some experience in this case can shed some light on the problem I am facing. I have a business degree from USA and have knowledge of 12/15 programming languages too. I heard that one needs a computer science degree in order to file for H1B if you are working as a programmer. Is INS really strict on this? Have you heard about people from other fields working as computer programmers/analysts? Doesn't knowlegde of programming count at all? Do you know of any guys who've had similar experiences? In my case it is a business systems company and not a software company. Thanks for your help. I appreciate.

Dear Sufferer "Friend", Please accept my namaste. Well !!! You don't have to worry too much about it as long as you have a degree of any kind ( Business or Computer !!! ) from USA. As far as I know til this point ( Coz Rules keep changing all the time ) for your H1B process, it entirely depends on the company how they present you to INS ( I mean How much they show your salary, job responsibilities and other relevent job experience ). This is what I can say today but if you want to know more about this you can always go to immigration sites. They are very useful. If you are hanging by a thread, it's wise to contact immigration lawyer near by you asap. Please don't waste your time." ACT ON IT" . Okay, take care and break your leg for H1B visa. Namaste. well wisher, Dhiren Gurung (:->)

Yeah, I heard about it too. I'm not hanging by a thread. I still have time, that was just a thing I heard. Yes I will be working on this and I have consulted a lot of immigration lawyer sites. I am also seeking my company to present me in a business analyst way. I just wanted to know if INS really hassles. I've read about INS asking for more documentation. In my case I have 12/15 programming languages reflected on my transcript and I hope it's enough. I hope other community members will give in more input about their/friends' experiences etc 'cause I am quite worried.

I know you don't need a specific degree in order to apply for H1 but how about cost. Does any one know how much lawyers are charging for it. The one I spoke to said, lega fee is $2000 and there is another fee of $1100 from INS. Sounds little too much to me, let me know if you know somthing I don't and I appreciate it in advance.

Depends on the lawyers. If the company has a lawyer, they should pretty much do all the process but if you hire your own lawyer the fees are anywhere from $ 800 to $ 2000. In total it'll cost you more than $ 3000.
