I am not familiar with this Zinc Oxide stuff. Don't know who produces Zinc Oxide in
Nepal, but all I know is that Zinc Oxide is something India doesn't want Nepal to
export (to India).[Experts readers, please illuminate us about Zinc Oxide.]

China was red with anger when this charge about Zinc Oxide dumping thing first
surfaced in 98s. I remember reading about the reaction of Chinese side in China
daily. "No, we don't dump anything like that.." They said. Not even via Nepal.

But zinc oxide is in demand in India. Indians need them, and they can get cheap
zinc oxide only via Nepal. Selling contraband things to India is not in our interest,
but one thing is sure, Nepalese are benefitting from zinc oxide sell to India. This
time, Indians are talking tough. They don't want zinc oxide things from us.Period.

But what about vegetable ghee?

The ghee produced by a factory owned by relatives of royal families. They are
ubiquitous in Tibet, just like Waiwai noodles. Why India doesn't want us to sell
them? They are pure Nepali product, something even China doesn't produce so
far.It looks like, India finds buying products from Nepal as a whole somewhat
ignominious.

Everytimes we make something, we produce something that is capable of capturing
Indian (and other)markets, Indians want to stifle them. Carpet/garments export
was messed up due to Indians and their stupid Nepali accomplices. And I still don't
know why they don't give us same facility as they give to US companies? Why
they hate to see prosperous Nepal with export-oriented industries?

Copper wire, and acrylic yarn are also in Indian objection list. Yes, a lot of Indian
businessmen scour the run-down hardscrabble towns of rural China thesedays
looking for the state-owned moribund suppliers who sell shoddy things in less
prices. But they don't have proper channel except the porous Nepal-India
border as a supply route. (Navigation via sea is difficult, and follow a tortuous
route with sojourn in places like Singapore) That's where Nepali businessmen
move in, and get a few profit.

If India has a problem, and she needs to look at herself. Even Bajaj started making
fans in China, and Ranbaxy already moved there. It can temporarily stem the tide
of Chinese goods flowing from Nepal, but that won't make her companies
competitive in world market against Chinese ones.

Historically, we have enjoyed benefit of Sino-Indian trade. Why not now? I do
have quite a few acquaintees buying and selling stuffs in that route. They pay
tax to Nepal(well, sometimes evade I guess) , and it is Nepali people who are
earning money. So, I hope that our beaurocrats would move to make the business
more respectable,( I hate to think that our economy relies on contraband trade)
and solve this problem with India so that both of our nations can benefit.
