The contemporary art scene in Kathmandu is pretty diverse, active and innovative. Young and established Nepali artists are tackling some of the

About the Artists:

SANDY SHUM's photographic art is a delightful expression of the joy she
finds in scenes of daily life.She explores colors,texture and shapes by
hand-embellishing photographs,giving the images,a painterly quality,
full of depth and texture.

Originally from California, Shum has lived and traveled in Asia for
over a decade.Her impressionistic photography portfolio includes
images from Nepal,Cambodia,Thailand,Bhutan as well as California.

JYOTI DUWADI,a native of Kathmandu, moved to the United States in 1971
and received a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School,California. He has
been exhibitng from 1978 with solo and group shows at the Pacific Asia
Museum,Pasadena, California; The Queens Museum of Art,New York City;
Laband Art Gallery,Los Angeles,California; Weatherspoon Art Gallery,
Greensboro, North Carolina and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago,
Illinois.

In Kathmandu,Jyoti exhibited an ecological artwork titled The
Myth of the Nagas and the Kathmandu Valley Watershed in 1994. He has
also shown drawings, sculptures and installations at the Siddhartha Art
Gallery.

Jyoti is a mulitmedia artist whose paintings, sculptures,installations,
video and digital artworks are metaphors of nature and spirituality
expressed in abstract symbols and colors. His work has integrated the
language of early mordern abstraction with Buddhist and Hindu imagery
from Nepali culture. Since 1994,he has done pioneering work using the
computer to unify these diverse ideas into a new format. Most recenty,
Jyoti has created a new genre of art - WebMotion, animated images that
have also been made into large prints.
