Those interested in doing research in Nepal will be happy to note that The American Center in Gyaneswor (formerly the American Library of New Road) offers excellent services/assistance re: access to Lexis-Nexis, and many other online databases related to law, medicine, business, humanities, the arts and the sciences. There is a small fee, which may be waived too. The two reference librarians there -- Navin Rayamajhi and Prakash Thapa -- have degrees in library science and are unfailingly always helpful to researchers up dig needed stuff from the databases. Their only gripe is that NOT many researchers use their services ad their databases. ******* On another note, though I have long heard Nepal-based academics' often saying that they cannot do great research because of "resource ko constraints and nothing but resource ko constraints", I am beginning to wonder whether it's question of few resources or the issue of lack of imagination, drive and initiative to do research in the first place. After all, despite there being so-called "brilliant" Nepali students everywhere, why is it that Nepal has failed to produce a crop of world-class thinkers/writers/academics? oohi ashu
