The following news is good, but if the US help is used to deteriorate the peace
prospect of the nation, then it will be sad.
With or without helicopters, our priority should be peace. US purpose was also
peace first. We can't make Nepal prosperous just with military chopper.
Like a lot of others, I am tired of Maoists. But if these military mights coming from
US helicopter is interpreted as a sure sign for government win, and the prospect
of peaceful solution is abandoned, then we will be in big trouble.
KATHMANDU, Nov 11 – Nepal is getting 10 sophisticated helicopters from the United States to "fight terrorism" in the country, State Minister for Home, Devendra Raj Kandel, publicly revealed on Sunday.
Addressing party cadres in the tourist town of Pokhara, State Minister Kandel disclosed that the US government has already committed itself to supplying 10 modern fully armed helicopters to help the government control "terrorism."
Though State Minister Kandel did not clearly specify when the choppers are arriving in the country, he clearly hinted that they would be used to curb the ongoing six-year-old Maoist insurgency. "The helicopters that are being provided to establish law and order in the country will be used by the Armed Police Force and the Nepal Police," he said.
State Minister Kandel added: "Since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the US is committed to eliminate terrorism from the globe and its promise of supplying us the helicopters is part of that goal."
According to State Minister Kandel, plans are presently on to mobilize the Armed Police Force in the Western districts of Parbhat, Tanahun and Nawalparashi.
