Dear nepali friends, It has been a long time since I left Nepal for US. I am planning to go back to Nepal this winter to meet my parents who are missing me a lot. But then I will have to apply for a new visa in Kathmandu before coming back to US. But what worries me a lot is, will I have truoble getting a new visa. Will I have to go through all the interview that I went through on my first time of abtaining the visa? Is there anyone who has some information on whether one who's been a good fulltime student in US will have problem getting visa on the way back to US? Anyone with any experience? It would help me a lot.

Greetings, As far as I know, you won't have any problem to get a new visa stamped on your passport provided you bring your transcript that has your grades of all the classes that you have taken so far (if you can have school mail your transcript directly to the embassy ehre in Kathmandu, then its even better), a letter of verification stating that you are a student in a good standing and that you haven't violated any US law, signed copy of your I-20 form (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT). You can just drop your passport in the morning, and come get your passport with a new visa stamped in the evening. I travelled when I was a student and I never had any problem with the US Embassy. They are very helpful when it comes down to returning students as long as the stundet hasn't violated any law and is in a good standing. I hope this helps. Trailokya

As of this past July, there is a one-week waiting period between dropping off the passport and documents in the "drop-box"at the embassy entrance and picking it up. Also, they only accepted drop-box applications on 2 (?) days of the week, and you have to pay the visa application fee in advance at Nabil Bank at Kantipath. Arnico.

I think your better bet is to go to Mexico or Canada and get the Student Visa stamped in your passport there. I went to both the places to get the visa twice and both the times there were no problems at all. If you are in good standing and have not violated any US immigration laws then there will be no problem getting the visa. Let me know if you need more information on how you can apply for visa in one of these two places and I will post the details here. Sungava.

hey, all those comments above are helpful. but, just wanted to get you prepared for a denial of visa in canada. i don't know about mexico. i went to toronto and i had 3 more friends with me with all the same documents and almost the same gpa and everything. well, they got the visa and i didn't. reason? nothing really, she just looked at me and asked me why didn't i go back to nepal after i finished my community college( my other friend had transfered from a community college too), and simply told me to go to nepal and get the visa from there.so, my friends are in nepal right now and i couldn't go. personally, i think just go to nepal and get the visa from there. but, i think noone can tell anything in this situation though. anyway, goodluck.

So, is anyone going to Nepal this winter then? Seems like everyone is pretty sure about getting the VISA. Hey guys, what about the financial documents and stuff. Do they also require that and what is the "drop" system? Do you guys mean to say that we will not have to give an interview to come back here. I am curious guys, I wanna go home too. -Nepali

Yes I am going this winter but I already got H-1B entry visa stamped in my passport from Mexico this summer. I recommend you do the same (or similar) if you want to go to Nepal. We all miss home and I can't wait to go back and have a good time there! sungava

guys, just got my passport stamped from ktm. I had no problem whatsoever. I just put the documents (passport, I797 and letter from my company saying I am working) in an envelope and gave the envelope on monday, my visa was ready the next week on tuesday. no problem whatsoever. it took me 30 minutes of my time to do all this. it might be safe to go to mexico or canada but it is not unsafe in nepal either. you will save money and time this way.

That sounds interesting. Yes you will indeed save some time and money if you go to Nepal and get visa from there. If you have a family then you will save a lot of money going to Nepal and applying visa from there. I will check around with other people who have applied in Nepal and if non of them experienced any hassel/problem I will certainely do that in my next visit. Thanks for info chahalpahal.
