hey, if anyone could tell me which day is Bhai tika-friday or saturday? Because the gbnc calendar shows bhai tika on Saturday while the nepalnews.com calendar shows bhai tika on Friday? I am lost!

The 17th is Bhai Tika though I guess you could celebrate it on Friday night (US) if you want to be a stickler and follow Nepal Standard Time.

I heard that after Friday 11:30, Dwitiya Tithi starts and that is the good time for Bhai Teeka. Let's get some more information from Nepal. If it is on Friday afternoon in Nepal, then we may start here Thursday Night or Friday morning to synchronize the universal time.

Gandhijee, what are you talking about dear learned Gandhijee? If it is Friday in Nepal then it should be in Saturday here. For god's sake we cannot "synchronize" time. If you do, then in Japan people will do bhai tika on Wednesday night and if you are farther east then maybe on Tuesday and so on. so which time do you want to synchronize with? If it is in dwitiya tithi, then we should celebrate when that tithi is here in the states, not when it is in japan, australia, Myanmar or Timbaktu. NK

ok, forget about thursday, friday, saturday... what i am saying is if: Bhaitika falls on the second day of new the moon, then it should be celebrated then. So when is the second day of new moon in the states? Figure that out and celebrate on that day.

Bhai tika is on Friday night. We are celebrating on Friday after everyone gets home.

NKji, I have heard that few Nepalese staying in the US had their kids' "Nwaran" over the phone by the "Pandit" telling the "Mantra" from Nepal and doing the ritual "Kan Phukne" here. I am not making fun of it but I respect their feelings to connect them with their land. Provided that people in Nepal celebrate Bhai Teeka on Friday Afternoon: 1. Those who want to exchange "Bhai Teeka" in the same time as their brothers/sisters are doing so in Nepal, Thursday Night/Friday Morning would be perfect. 2. For those who want to follow the movement of earth and lunar calender, then it should be done Friday Night/Saturday Morning. I hope you got it now. May be my choice of word "synchronize" got a wrong interpretation. Gandhi

And ofcourse I was just elaborating JDV's postings. >The 17th is Bhai Tika though I guess you >could celebrate it on Friday night (US) if >you want to be a stickler and follow Nepal >Standard Time.

NK did her time math backwards in the first posting. HEHEHE And Gandhiji got yelled at for no reason. NK, a reminder that, you make mistakes too (or quickly try to hide it). :) Have a happy dipawali

Really, people. I never said I never make mistakes. I make plenty! Or are you one of those people who "hear voices?" I agree I made my math backwards and took a few hours to realize it - in my first posting. But I hope you now understood what I was trying to say.
