A father and son get into the accident. Father dies and paramedics bring critically injured son to the hospital for operation. They call the doctor. Doctor comes and as soon as sees the kid walks out crying saying I can not operate the kid because he is my son. How can that be? What could be the relationship????

Doctor is the kid's mother?

Good catch Sangey. It is a question of perception. I think this question is better asked vocally than posting on board :-)

It took a while for me and my co-worker to realize. Our senses were telling us how could that be, father is dead.. !!!

Well, it's simple. The 'son' is the Doctor's son. When it said father and son, they did have to be related. It could be any father and any son.

I'm disappointed that none of you got the answer. Can't the doctor be a woman??

Answer: The doctor's the child's mother.

Oops!! Sorry Sangey, I didn't see your answer before I posted mine - I'm glad there's one Nepali guy out there who's willing to accept that women can be doctors too!

Greetings,

Hahahah, this is the same question I wa asked during my orientation week in China. Its a matter of perceeption. The surgeon is the mother of that kid. When we think of surgeons, we think of males, but why can't there be female surgeons? Ask this to any Nepali or asian, they will say, well, the kid probably had two fatehrs, because ours is a male dominated society. Ask this to any american/western student, they will say, well, the surgon was his mom.

A very good exercise on inter-cultural communication.

A father and son ----

By default, the Doctor is mother of son, but, if its discussion
for discussion, and if the case is in court, then, the lawyer
will raise a question that

"the first sentance does not mention "HIS SON" , but,
mentions just SON, so if the SON is any SON, the Doctor
can be mother or father of the SON". So, as long as
there is missing "HIS", I mean " A father and his son"
is not the beginning of the reporting, you can spend
years debating Doctor might be Father of the son
or Mothor. It asks who you the reader is, hopefully,
you are not a lawyer.
