Kiran was born in Kathmandu, Nepal where her parents met while in the Peace Corps. Her father is Nepalese, her mother a native Pennsylvanian. She grew up in Montgomery Village, Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C. Kiran is an alumnus of the University of Maryland, where she majored in Broadcast Journalism
