I have heard from a few people around boston that the new president of GBNC is not such a good person and is not very popular around some of the people in the boston community. I think he should make himself more acceptable.
ashu Posted on 18-Nov-01 08:39 AM

Hi "reporter"

Though you have every right to exercise your freedom of speech and every right to hide your identity, may I request you to think twice before posting this kind of remarks here?

My request is based on the issue of fairness alone.

That is to say, postings like yours -- high on adjectives and low on nouns -- UNFAIRLY prejudices people against the new GBNC president or whoever else who happens to be your target.

This unfairness is unacceptable to us, because we strive to play a fair game,
so to speak, here, and your help would go a long way here.

On another note, If my experience on such matters is any guide, the kind of negative stuff I have heard about OTHER Nepalis, for instance, have usually turned out to be FALSE when I actually met them in person and.or when I actually worked with them on a task, and, thus, I, for one, have learnt to conclude
that one should NOT rely on the gossipy stuff one hears about other Nepalis.

Please feel free to disagree.

(Disclosure: I know the GBNC president, only vaguely; and have nothing to gain by buttering him up).

This report is not going to get you the Pulitzer. Again, this probably would have been best sent to the president as an e-mail.

"Let's appreciate, Shall we ? "

Dear Friends,
Please accpet my Namaste. Well !!! It's really premature to say anything about the newly elected Boston President. Mr Reporter has rights to say anything about anybody here in America but the Boston Community we have here is in the verge of growing and needs strong people who think postive and help our communty grow and move forward.

I think time has come for us to think postive rather than passing some irrevalent personal remarks. We simply cannot judge a person by another single person's views and remarks. I personally don't know the newly elected Boston President but I do have respect to this great guy as a leader of Boston Society coz he is the one who has courage to move forward and wants to lead his society where nobody has never been before.

I think Mr. Reporter not only hurts him personlly but the Boston society as a whole. So, Let's not pass those kind of unaccetable comments. Can we appreciate what he has done so far for Boston society ? God Bless Boston Society. Thank you.

with regards,
Dhiren Gurung
Well Wishers of Boston Society

Thought of the day: ""Appreciation is a wonderful thing; it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well."
Biswo Posted on 18-Nov-01 01:54 PM

>Please accpet my Namaste. Well !!! It's really premature to say anything about
>the newly elected Boston President.

I agree with this statement.

When will people learn to rally behind their president? Mr Bik Yonjan seems to be a
very talented person, as long as I have perceived.

It is sad that people, without using their name, or any supporting incident, start
smearing the president from the first month of his tenure. This smear campaign
only hurts ourselves and GBNC. If he were so bad, why not others objected him
and ran against him when he was running for president?
concerned Posted on 18-Nov-01 01:55 PM

Reporter, do you really know the GBNC preseident? Have you ever been to the GBNC functions lately? Are you a frequent visitior to the website? I very much doubt so. Otherwise, you would not say anything baseless. We Nepalese should learn to appreciate others. We just thing ourselves as the best and no other person has a vision to lead us forward. Please give some concrete examples, if any, to support your accusation. The President would then be grateful to pointing out something deficient in him.

I know nothing about how the GBNC council is elected but I imagine they're elected by Boston the 'basindas'. If that’s the case, I'd say the new President has already proved his popularity merely by being elected to begin with.

I’d suggest to Reporter (and everyone else) that he not waste his or our time by posting such unfound rumors in the future.

"I imagine they're elected by Boston the 'basindas'" should read "I imagine they're elected the Boston 'basindas'".

Corection:

Oh well, I contend myself with the thought that this is what happens when your brain works faster than your fingers :)

FYI: since noone ever 'runs' for the GBNC presidents, GBNC has had 'unelected' presidents for at least 3 consecutive elections, since only one person showed interest in becoming the president.
NS Posted on 18-Nov-01 03:25 PM

dear reporter,
I totally disagree with you. Looks like you don't even know him........so how could you judge a person based on some biased thoughts??????
I know the present president very well and I've admired him for his dedication and effort to pull the community together. Rather than posting such rude comments, lets help him out and work together to build a better community!!!!

BP: Ok, now that I'm stuffed with gundruk ko jhol and khasi ko masu, perhaps I can think better. You're right when you say my fingers do move faster than my brain - the fact that I've made another typo in my earlier posting more than proves that. But hey, it's Sunday, I figure I'm allowed to goof off on the day of the Sabbath. As for my use of profanity... mea culpa and... so sue me! :)

Mr. Reporter, are you younger Brother of Makune of our
Nepal's opposition party: CPN UML. Makune including
Madan Bhandari (in the past) vowed from very first day
to fail the Nepali Congress Government. Chha manhina ma
hami yo sarkar lai dhalauchhou. You are playing the same
trick. Why you let him work for sometime? Or else, you
are trying to cheat the sentiments of GBNC Members,
by agitating them: Tuchha Man Briti ko Mache.

For evil to triumph here and anywhere else, all it requires is for good people
to stand around and do nothing or do things clumsily.

On a larger note, I would argue that if things in Nepal are "khattam" as some pessimists are prone to say, then, those things are khattam NOT because of democracy per se BUT because many good people in Nepal have sat around -- complaining, complaining, feeling powerless and doing nothing, and even if they
do something, they've done things in a half-baked without any clear strategic focus.

Though politeness and good bahaviors go a long way in public discourse, sometimes, good people have to be relentless sons-of-bitches, so to speak,
to ward off evil. Hindu holy texts, for instance, encourage using Saam, Daan, Danda and Vay.d as per one's judgment to legitimately achieve one's aims.

That said, it's really great to see the members of this Web community taking it upon themselves to raise their voices against UNFAIR attacks. Actions like
these reinforces my belief in the latent but effective power that self-organizing, self-policing and ever-vigilant democratic communities can mobilize for the right ends.

Though some people have complained about my "bickering" with NK, I am actually glad that such bickering did take place because it provided all of us a lesson in thatyou CANNOT resort to cheap tricks and call other people names and STILL
be expected to be taken with personal and intellectual respect by reasonable people.

Long live the power of OPEN, self-organizing and self-policing societies.
