More than ninety percent of Nepalese youth wants to leave the country.

Not so well educated from villages are eyeing Middle East, Malaysia, and Korea. Those who can afford more than 1 million are eyeing Japan, US and Europe. The bottom levels are going to India as bahadurs.

Almost all graduates with a relatively good degree are preparing for TOEFL and GRE. All the engineers i have met so farare seriously trying to go to US to study and then to work.

A good percentage of people who go overseas for seminars and training do not return. Even higher percentage of people who go for scholarship do not return.

Youths are dying to leave the country. You can see the rush to send application for DV program, queue in US and other embassies, the crowd in employment agencies that send people in middle east, and so on.

Getting visa is like striking a lottery. People will treat you differently after you get your visa. It¡¯s like you got the passport for success.

What will be the future of Youth-less Nepal?

Thats why today Nepal's economy is better in
private sector. The jobs are opened. Its good
news, and also bad that the viallages are deserted.
Those who could nt leave village or could not do anything
are joining Maoists.

Well, as time passes, peoples will return and transfer the
technique of working. till now, we have motto of Bashi
Bashi khane, tomorrow, no one will look for bashi bashi
khane as a status symbol. Lets be optimistic. since
people bring their own money, not bajeko money,
so they will demand govt. to more honest and corrupt
officers will be damned as time comes.

Keep it up.

I read somewhere that money remmited from foreign country by Nepali almost equals to the nations budget, so thats one way how we contribute unknowingly to nepals economy.. any economist out there to elaborate on its prons and cons?

Remittance Economy:

GP and thito, are you guys saying that its better for the Nepaleas economy that the youth go abroad and and sent remittance back home. Is this how Nepla is going to be in the future?

As far as the remittance economy is concerned, we should thank our so called less educated and unskilled youths as well as bahadur lahures for this. Nepal gets back the fruit only from these group of people working abroad. As far as the skilled and educated bunch is concerned, most of them are planning to migrate for good instead of coming back with loads of money, experiences and contacts. I dbout even those who claims to go come after a while. This dbout is not unfounded if you see the overseas Nepalese who are in their 50s and 60s and show no sign of going back.

I am just wondering what is the percentage of ex-students from SEBS AND ST.X are overseas? Is it like IIT of India where 80% of the students go to US immediately after graduation and rest of 20% goes within 5 years?

Thanks
