Causes of deaths in nepal are seldom well established "Flu" is too vague a term. I remember a public health official telling me some years ago two dozen people died in western hill districts, possibly due to consumtopm of an extre,e;u low-grade rice distributed by the government. The deaths instead were conveniently attributed to 'gastro-enteritis.' Can some of these deaths below be due to anthrax, or some other killer disease? Anthrax is pretty common among livestock in Nepal, according to a vet. 24 die of measles, viral flu KOL Report KATHMANDU, Nov 22 - At least 24 people have died of measles and flu within the last one month in various regions of the remote western Humla district bordering Mugu and Bajura district, our district report says. Our district correspondent quotes Maila VDC Chairman Bris Bahadur Shahi as saying that one-year-old Lila Shahi of ward no. 5 and two unidentified children from ward no. 3 and 6 have died of measles. Likewise, viral flu has claimed the lives of Jand Bahadur Hamal, 55, Deura Jaysi, 61, Janaki Jaysi, 58 – all within Maila VDC, the VDC chairman said. “Even the health posts have run out of medicine after the outbreak of the two diseases,” the VDC Chaiman added. Furthermore, Madana VDC Chaiman Jaya Buda is quoted as saying that Nain Buda, 50, Hasta Buda, 55 have died of flu in his region while Sannalal Jaysi, 44, and Jatreni Jaysi died in the neighboring Kalika VDC. Another dead hasn’t yet been identified, he added. Similarly, reports add that 13 others have died in Srinagar VDC of Humla district.
