$70,000,000 (Rs. 5,32,00,00,000 - 5.32 Arab) That's how much the army is spending over the next five years on weapons upgrades. Who is going to pay for it? BINOD BHATTARAI, NepalNews.com Why does the army need to spend $70,000,000 for new weapons when the money could be spent to pay down the national debt. The money could be used on much needed projects. Does Nepal need new machine guns and helicopter gunships when a majority of the population does not have access to the basic human needs like education and clean drinking water? Where is the money coming from? Who are we kidding here? Is this an attempt by the palace to better equip the military for it's own security against possible maoist insurgencies?

Dear Bro, We need first safety and security then, education. How peoples are getting killed, clearly shows we need strong army. We need 100,000 army. Then, f**k all terrorists. It will also give jobs to all youngs. Indirectly, it will upgrade the economy of the peoples in villages via their salary reaching to village. Recently have you been to Nepal? How peoples are suffocated, they can not speak a word against these terrorists. They tell each other not to speaks a word. Do you remeber the Gobber Singh's dialogue, sat mile par jba bachha rota he to usaki ma kaheti beta so jawo nahi ta gabbar sigh a jayega. Today, peoples use Nepali version of Gobber singe, but, not in movie but, in daily life. Even in KTM , peoples say "Bhaigo yo kurai nagarou, batama hidne le sunla, jata sukai Gabbar singh ka manche chhan"..... You go stay there in village, you will face this. Who cares your logics, they, don't listen logic "either you are with us, or you deserve death". Only peoples in freedom think that Freedom may be one useless item, but, once they go to the other parts of the world --they realize what is freedom, why you need it -- . GP

Friends, No one has to support any terrorists and their activities in any place in the world. However, there had been used a Nepali Word " Atankbadi " at the time of Panchayat regime to the democratic groups or parties. We had objection on that, and then we forgot to recognize to followers of other political ideals. Simply, this government has also adopted same CHALA to announcing all the Maoists "Terrorist". It seems just like a "Kunale Ko Chakra". >We need first safety and security then, >education. How peoples >are getting killed, clearly shows we need >strong army. We need >100,000 army. Then, f**k all terrorists. This anger is objectionable. I, personally, do not say them terrorist. It >will also give jobs to >all youngs. Mr. GP, this whole writing has nothing. I will write more on your postings, pls just review your posting. Reetu...

I strongly disagree with you Reetu ji. What is the use of "proper" education, health and other development activities if there's no security at all. In the present context, the only people who'll entirely benefit will be only the Maoists if you spend so much of the budget money on development projects as the rebels will have more money to loot - The money will not be utilized properly on the Nepali Janta at all but to the spolit green men of the so called Maoist millitia. In fact, I believe that the rebels presently have gone to fighting as they ran out of cash to pay their gundas because of the ceasefire...hence, they're into looting again. The present Integrated Security and Development Plan (ISDP) of the government is a very good program if well coordinated as it pushes development and security together. And I feel that, under the present context, it is best to focus more on sharpening the tooth of the Royal Nepal Army to curb the insurgency to allow proper development later. Then only we could provide more jobs as more companies would flourish as they would be well protected from Maoist goons. I do respect Binod Bhattarai as a journalist but the last two front page articles on Nepali Times has brought down my high hopes on him. Despite being a journalist, he has hardly stated the other side of the story and has gone glatantly accusing the army and the government - just like an activist.

TKP's editorial: (I salute the TKP Editorial for their braveness in asking government to take strong move). Excerpts of Editorial:(Details please read from its own site) The government might have to take some unpleasant but temporary measures including curbing of civil liberties to bring the situation to normalcy. But if the government and opposition political parties think that this is necessary, such measures must be taken so that people continue to enjoy democratic environment in the country. The country has already taken more battering in its economy during the past 12 months than it really deserved without the Maoists further complicating the situation. Nepalese people deserve much better than this. The government must take necessary steps to allow the security forces to deal with the situation. Any step that the security forces takes must be backed by other political steps by the government including the sealing of the southern border, if need be. Unless a government can be decisive in times of need, it has no right to continue in office and should hand over power to those who can deliver.

Kantipuronline.com says there are deep divisions within the Nepali Congress CWC over imposing emergency or branding Maoists as terrorists. So are we again gonna go on like this? Are we gonna let the Maoist run free to do their stuff while the NC people fight amongst themselves?
