HR and SR, the public heart throbs of one's younger days, have long entered connubial bliss in England and Darjeeling respectively, and have left the Nepali
arts scene altogether.
So that's that.
My favorite singers are:
1. Bacchu Kailash (he's still alive and doing quite well for himself!)
2. Fattey Man (his "yesto pani hoondo raicha" is one song I have listened to 1000 times so far.)
3. Dhruba KC ("mayalu hajar hoonchan; tara maya eutai hooncha")
4. Prem Dhoj ("yo naani ko see.raima. indra-kamal")
5. Narayan Gopal ("yeti choko, yeti mitho, duila timilai maya")

Hongkong Group's songs will be in nepali hearts for ever. Its like ever green songs. It was as pouplar when I was growing up as it is today. Isn't it amazing that the band was fomed in late 70s, and we are still in to it? Its too bad that the band didn't last due to the band members postings. Are there any other bands out there who has such an impact on nepali music?

Let's not forget the great Gopal Yonzon. I think because of him and his "dautari" the Nepali music is where it is today.
BTW, last I heard, Sashi-miss is still working for RNAC. Did she ever sing? But, boy, she was pretty, wasn't she?
I wonder how her colleague is doing - PurnaNepali-sir. He of "chati ma mero, yo choto bhoto" fame.

I’m not in tune with most new singers. I’ve been told more than once that I need to be more adventurous and expand my musical taste but I love the oldies. I’d have to say the following count among my favorites:
Kehi Mitho
Mutu Mathi Dhunga Rakhi
Gajaluti Thula Thula Aankhen
And lots of other Narayan Gopal songs that don’t come to mind now but I find myself humming at work!!

Nabin Bhattarai is like Nepali Richard Marx :) or Modern Talking band of 80s. I thought most of his songs are the same. There is no variety in his songs. Mero b4 maa...

Nice catch. You are absolutely correct. Bolau bhane timilai bat lagne dara is by Badri Durga Kharel. What I had in my mind from Diwakar Khadka? Tadhai bata dekhda bolu bolu lagchha .... and yes, I also remembered the first line "Duita phul deuralima sangai rakhyoun jasto lagchha" right after I posted my list.

Once (My God! it's been more than 10 years) I was riding a jeep looking vehicle (may be mahindra & mahindra) to Lebong from Chaurasta with a bunch of people. One of them was quite friendly. Once I got off at Lebong right by that CRPF post, he also got off. We exchanged friendly conversion for a while. Then pointing south south west at a bas ko jhyang some 500 meters away from that CRPF post he said "that's where my house is". He mentioned that he had just come back from kathmandu recording some songs. Now, I am trying to remember what he said his name was. Pema Lama? May be.

Your posting was God-sent to me. For years and years, I have been searching for that song, "Phula ko thunga bahera gayo..." But I did not know the words, nor its singer. I knew only the tune. But thanks to you, I now have first line and name of the singer. Kueool!!
For some reason, since I was a little kid, I always associated tree tops in a gloomy day in Dharan with that song. Weird, eh? That I am.
Pray tell, do you know if it is stored anywhere in the net so that I can download it?

Don't you think it should be like "Mai Chhori Sundari Kasari Bharam Paani, Uthi Uthi Bharam Bhane KAMMAR DUKHNE BAANI Basi Basi Bharam Bhane GHAILA BHANDA Sani." This way it make more sense, no?
Actually, only once in the begenning she sings as Uthi uthi bharam bhane ghaila bhanda saani, Basi basi bharam bhane kammar dukhne baani..After that lyrics change to Uthi uthi bharam bhane kammar dukhne baani, basi basi bharam bhane ghaila bhanda saani...Well, I may be wrong. I have to listen to the song to be sure but no matter what that song is nice, from good old days.

Does anybody know who sings this song, well actually I don't even know the name of the song but it has to do with a pillow and his/her beloved's picture underneath
it. I heard that song once on a bus sung by one of the passengers when I was about six or seven and that was the first and last time I ever heard that beautiful song.... Gosh thinking about it brings back memories of my childhood in NEPAL.

my favorite site, and I visited that site a lot of times in this summer.(I also sent
an appreciation letter to Miss Panta for that great effort also.She is doing a
great job.) But it never occurred to me that I should look for that song in
Nati Kaji section. I always looked at Tara Devi section.
Sangeyji, I am glad my posting was so helpful for you. Btw, the most touching
lines in that song to me is:
"Raata Maa Malaai Herdachha Tolaai Purbako Taaraale

It was a song from Manko Baadh, right?

Checked out the mp3.com top hits site. It is cool. I didn't know that the site existed. Who are 72nd Street Band anyways? Never heard of them before. Their song "Sara Khushi" is worth a listen. Flower Generation and Robin N' Looza are some others great sounding bands that are listed there. I recommend you guys check the site out
