"Arresting God in Kathmandu" is a collection
of short-stories based in Nepal and Nepali
settings.

This is surely the first collection of short-stories
written by a Nepali man in English, and soon to be
brought out by a major US publisher.

This is a big deal indeed.

Samrat is a graduate of Kathmandu's St. Xavier's
School. He holds a PhD in English literature from
the University of Hawaii. At present, he teaches
writing at a college in Ohio.

Last year, Samrat's short-story, "The Shopkeeper", was
selected, along with Jhumpa Lahiri's "Interpreter
of Maladies", to be in "The Best American Short
Stories - 1999" edited by Amy Tan.

By his own admission, Samrat is fascinated by sex,
and uses sex scenes effectively, poignantly and
refreshingly to tell complex, subtle stories of
Kathmandu's urban and fluid social scapes and
relationships.
