A Open Letter to Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai/ Puspa Kamal Baidha Prachand ( leader of Maoist Rebel Party Nepal)

My heart pained and my soul cried each time I read the news that underground Maoist Party ambushed innocent helpless people and police men like or killing innocent civilians to bring their so called political change in Nepal. Dr.Bhattarai and Prachand, the leader of Maoist Party in Nepal, should care to explain to the innocent citizens and their families those who are victimized by the senseless killings by his party cadre. Does you (both) think that these are the righteous acts to change Nepal's corrupt democratic political system? I just wonder if the system is corrupt and if the political leaders and the bureaucrats those who are patronizing this system should be guilty, then why targeting the innocent civilians or the poor police men those who barely surviving doing their job under difficult situation. When I read the story of Meena, (Kantipur, 6 July, 2001) sister of Deepak Khadka, a police man, when her brother was laid down in front of her eyes near on pile of firewood in her own house yard, I really feel helpless and try to search a rational answer of such a cowardly act of terrorism on innocent civilians and on duty police. The question again I ask to Dr.Bhattarai/Prachand what his party gain out of such act, except the silent outrage of helpless mass like Meena. These barbaric acts are not only one or two isolated cases that Maoists are ruthlessly performing killing the innocent people to make a political statement. This has been the pattern of your party since the insurgency started in Nepal in 1994-95. Until now many children have lost their fathers, many sisters lost their brothers, many women lost their husbands. It is so sad when these people have already robbed off normal peaceful life thanks to our dire corrupt political system, they now became the victim of such heinous criminal act, which they are not at all responsible for. Killing innocent civilians, blowing up the telecommunication towers/planes or planting bombs to regular market places certainly can not bring the political change in a country, Nepal. It only uncovers the foolish arrogance of few mad persons whose stupidity only compares to the age-old story of that ignorant man "while sitting the branch of a tree and chopping off the same". Destroying the properties of our already dire poor country can hardly be any political statement and government must not tolerate such an act of terrorism.

Need of the hour for any political party is to address our chronic nature of poverty, illiteracy and slow economic development. If we look to our neighborhood, we can well see that many of our neighbors are trying hard work to change the age-old economic structure of their society by following market economy. Well, this may be justified to Dr. Bhattarai/Prachand, probably, he does not lose any of his brother or sister or children so he can not simply fathom the deep pain of these families those who lost their beloved because of a experimental political theories that Mr.Bhattarai/Pranchand so eager to apply on our innocent citizens. If Dr. Bhattarai/Pranchand think that he is emulating the notorious and nasty cultural revolution type of political genocide on our people, he must know that people should stand up to him one-day and throw his half baked political non-sense in the dust-been. Even the Chinese, whom Dr. Bhattarai try to aping, has accepted the market economy to bring welfare to their 1.3 billion people, targeting China's age-old enemy the "Poverty".

Due to violent nature of Maoist insurgency, which destroyed and damaged enough public properties. It is as such a grave national loss and hence hindrance to further development to our already very poor country. If, for the sake of argument, one may accept one's anger and frustration towards the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats but I fail to understand, how a nationalist who does care great deal about Nepal engaged in such senseless killings of innocent civilians and destroy national properties.

Nepal is a peaceful democratic country. We need to address political and other social reforms to push Nepal in to 21st century. Political Corruption, illiteracy, lack of proper resource mobilization needs to be addressed immediately. This political and social transition from present state of hopelessness (things further deteriorated after the recent Royal Family assassination) to normal level takes systematic pragmatic steps and it can not be achieved over night. By creating reign of terror, destroying public properties or killing innocent civilians and police men, kidnapping and extorting innocent people really won't serve the purpose of political transition. If the violent political path to serve the desired purpose of greater political change then there should not be any difference with your political agenda and strategy in between Shera-Leon and Afghanistan where violence political killings ultimately destroying the last hope of the survival of those countries.
In conclusion, if we may ask you, Dr. Bhattarai/Pracnad, what exactly your party's political strategy and philosophy under Maoist insurgency in Nepal? So far the ordinary people of Nepal only have witnessed reign of terror. Do your party have any political vision for a noble mission for our country from which our country can benefit in long-run?

Nepal is a tourism paradise on earth. Major foreign currency can be earned through tourism sector by developing better infrastructure to support this industry. The negative impact of Maoist insurgency is already taking heavy toll on tourism sector. The result may cause serious impediment for our economy. Thousands of people may lose their jobs, the overall GDP will be lowered. If you really think for better future of Nepal, you should have concrete political agenda for future betterment for eradication of massive poverty and the political corruption. Even the communist government of China is adapting market economy to push China in to 21st century so that her citizens can enjoy the successful economic transition. Though it was a very difficult job China did it through pragmatic economic steps though years to transform it. But it did not opt the path of violence.

Conti..................

If you want to bring real change in Nepal's political stability and give economic prosperity to our people, then, you must follow the path of our neighbor like China who successfully bring economic prosperity to their people through peaceful political transition rather than political violence through random killings and destruction of public properties. Give us your development plan, we have tremendous resources and potentiality and manpower. We need serious planning for mobilization of our existing resources to put Nepal in the league of the developing nations.

If you successful in bringing socio-political and economic changes in Nepal, all the peace loving people of Nepal will support whole heatedly to your political agenda. In that way you can be put your name in the history of Nepal as a visionary, Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai who see the future of Nepal, the land of heavenly abode of our gods and goddesses, the place where Lord Buddha took birth for the salvation of the world.
