what follows is a news from kantipuronline. I am just wondering if arresting the journalist is a right thing to do if only thing they've been doing is writing or publishing??

KOL Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 27 - Police Monday arrested nine journalists associated with the Maoist mouth pieces, namely Janadesh Weekly, Janadisha Daily and Dishabodh Monthly.

Those arrested included editor Govinda Acharya, Khil Bahadur Bhandary, Dipendra Rokaya, Deepak Sapkota, Ram Bhakta Shrestha from Janadesh; Ishwor Chandra Gyawali and one unidentified journalist from Dishabodh; while editor Om Sharma and Deepak Mainali from Janadisha were also arrested. The police have also seized some press materials and stationers from the publishing houses.

It is necessary. They will run rumors and phantom stories.
Its time to control all activities, even including students
associated with Maoists.

Under "extraordinary situations" certain "extraordinary steps" need to be taken, irrespective of Constitutional guarantees... as proposed preached and proudly displayed in the US after the Sept 11 incident. Going after any individual that promotes the "terrorists' " agenda is guilty of harboring the terrorist.

Borrowing Bush's words... "... we'll smoke 'em out.. we'll hunt 'em down..."

(anyone who suggests that this is irrelevant in Nepal's context should come up with a better reason not to clamp down the Maoist machinery...)
