Because of the act of those so called Arab "fanatic terrorists" a lot of Arabs who have nothing to do with terrorism will have to go thru interviews with the authorities in Michigan, now. It clearly shows how the act of some may pull others unknowingly in an unknown territory.

I don't know how would they (authorities) react to the information taken from the interviewees but I sometimes think how would the members of Nepali community react if they were to appear for such interviews (let's not assume, "That day will never come").

"The Times said a Justice Department memo told local officials to check visitors' passports and visas; ask about visits to local landmarks and foreign countries; investigate sources of income, scientific expertise and access to weapons, including anthrax; and seek lists of phone numbers of friends and relatives."

The above paragraph is taken from the following news (link below).

It’s unfortunate that the acts of a few have such far-reaching implications on the majority of innocents. As much discomfort and inconvenience this might bring to the generally innocent Arab population in the US, I don’t blame the government for their actions and/or paranoia.

Good posting, sparsha. If questioned, how would Nepalis in the U.S. answer the question "Do you know anyone who is currently staying or is planning to stay in the U.S. illegally?" After Subash Gurung's arrest, I twice posed three options for the Nepali community in the States. Of course, no one dared respond, so perhaps the third time's the charm. As you rightly pointed out, the act(s) of a few can affect many. Once it was discovered that Gurung is in the U.S. illegally, a lot of GBNCers expressed concern that the incident would precipitate visa problems for Nepalis already in-country or planning on coming the the U.S. As I see it, the Nepali community can choose from three options regarding immigration:

1) Do nothing and hope that no other Nepalis get caught staying here illegally;
2) Work within the Nepali community to ensure that all Nepalis in the U.S. are complying with U.S. immigration laws; or
3) Cooperate with the DOJ/INS to ensure that all Nepalis in the U.S. are complying with U.S. immigration laws.

Please vote by #.
