What are the usual beliefs that peoples in Nepal (or elsewhere) have?
Please annex here.

Kuukk kuukk kukyayo bhane, they say, some one close to you remembered
you at that moment. Its what peoples in Pokhara believe, and My Mother also
says the same thing, especially, when I make a telephone call
to her, she says, aaj bihan kasto Kuukk kuuk bhako thiyo, chhora
le telephone garne bho bhane jasto lageko thiyo tyaskherai....

There are many. Why not we record them here?

i like this thread. well, ok, after hinduisme and christianity.
sparsha Posted on 29-Nov-01 01:55 PM

"Yata na Uta Jhyal ma Manchhe"

Now, how is that for "Ukhan?" , NK?
Ashim Posted on 29-Nov-01 02:18 PM

I really wanna know who is this smart ass NK is. Is she the most dominant character in GBNC or what? Why she have to stick her nose in each and every topics even though she knows nothing about it. Or is she trying to prove that she is the most intelligent person in MA. If so you need to sharp your gidi little bit.

What you guys say! This is just my observation only.

Ashim.
Biswo Posted on 29-Nov-01 02:33 PM

Hey Ashim:

What's your problem, man? She is just expressing her opinions, and I don't know
why you can't tolerate such a simple matter.

Rinse your mouth before using profanity, btw. I am tired of one liners like you
coming and verbally assaulting and spewing profanity here. You wanna oppose
her, use your head, and write down some good points on the issues she is
participating in. Otherwise, you are free to ignore her.

If one-liners like you think you can attack everybody with impunity, then forget
that. If need arises, we can also attack you, jackass. It's only that I don't want
to spend my time on khahares like you.

Now, go and study who is the smartest person in MA.
sparsha Posted on 29-Nov-01 03:00 PM

Ashim,

Let's not be personal. We can agree/disagree/ignore what a fellow poster says without directing rough words at that poster. Why don't you just attack NK's views if you don't like them. I guess you're having problem not with NK but with NK's postings.

And Biswoji.....wow! I certainly noted the change. Change in the way you used to follow while responding to other posters. Welcome to the Club :-)

--

Few years back, a few of us were strolling around Manchester, NH talking about Ukhans. One of us was "poor" in Nepali. He was not contributing any ukhaans. So We started to tease him, and he suddenly said..."Yata na Uta Jhyal ma Manchhe...

Silence ruled over us for a while. I had never heard any thing like that "yata na uta jhyal ma manchhe"..later it became clear that others also had not heard about that Ukhan. So, we asked him (the one who gave us that never heard of ukhan) what does his ukhan mean. he said, "tyati pani thaha chhaina"...think again. We did and gave up.

Malai ke thaha? Jharko lagera yattikai bhandya. Maile pani jindagi sunya chhaina Yata na uta jhyal ma manchhe...The founder of ukhan said.
sungava Posted on 29-Nov-01 03:55 PM

Ha ha ha Sparsha pretty funny.. I liked it...
NK Posted on 29-Nov-01 04:22 PM

Hey Sparsha and Bishwo Bandhu,

Isn't that funny about this Ashim's ire against me? Does he/she participate when I am talking about God? NO!
Does he/she participate when I write/talk about poetry? A BIG NO ON THAT
Does he/she have to say anything when I talk about Gita? A BIG FAT NO ON THAT TOO
Does he/she have to say anything when I am asking about journalists role in a changing world, A Big Fat Poke marked face NO on that too.

Did I prove something here or what?

Dear Ashim (you have a good name, thank your mother/father for giving such a nice name for somebody who just seem sto get personal without provocation. if you are in MA , seems like you are, why don't you come for a little chat. we can talk about Gita, Truth, Sylvia Plath, Tagore, Shakespeare, poetry, Robert Haas or if they bore you we will talk about you. How about that, eh?) see I am wasting my energy on this kind of thing. it is all your fault Ashim *(again, you got a nice name there., only if you could "talk").
NK Posted on 29-Nov-01 04:26 PM

Sparsh: Really, that was funny.
Dear Biswo: what happend to you? with whom are you hanging out these days :)? It is scaring me a bit. Is this our influence?
sparsha Posted on 29-Nov-01 04:31 PM

Sungava,

A good friend of mine (may his soul rest in peace) once asked me a qusetion...

there were three (just three) ants walking in a straight line...the first ant looked back and said, "I got no one ahead of me but got two ants behind me", the second or middle ant looked back and said, "I got an ant ahead of me and an ant behind me" then the third or the last ant also looked back and let these words free, "there are two ants ahead of me and three ants behind me." Now how is that possible? if you know the answer....don't you think it's funny?

BTW where you guys come up with all these beatiful fancy names...sunakhari, sungava...parijat...I guess Bishnu Devi Waiba was the first one to come up with that name "Parijat".

Yep, I realize this thread is veering off. I am also responsible. Sorry, G.P.

Adding one more belief:

- If black Crow crows early in the morning near the house, then some one is coming.
- if a cat crosses you way, then something bad is going to happen to you.
- if you see water-full pot on the way to some work, they you will be successful.

Raat pakh yadi phyauro karayo bhane someone in the
village might have died. Or, you have to hear someone's
death.

----
Well, Phyauro, syaal, and many carnivorous animals
are good in smells. Like we recognize someone with
eyes, they recognize each living being by smell as equally
as our eyes. I had seen one documentary, some kinds of dogs are
trained in USA to detect someone with a special skin cancer.
It was quite successful, than other medical diagnosis. Dogs
may know in the event you are going to suffer major disease
through your personal odors. Well, we all know how
dogs bark in night when someone passes nearby, and how
they recognize the dogs with Rabies and spare from their
own group. So, Phyauro might have smelled that someone
is changing his odor to die soon or already died and invited
other friends in the search of dead body.

Khola susayo bhane naramro hunchha..may be some one dies. Hamro pahad ma tyasto pani bhanthe....sadly, everytime I heard Arun River susako next day para dada bata ..."radhaaaaaaa Krisna...sitaaaaaaaaaaaa Ram bhandai malami oralo lageko dekhthe...But I am not convinced that Arun ko susai had anything to do with that dead person.

Well, some of you guys who have taken RNA's second Lieutinent (seken lapton) test may remember this from that IQ test (sitting on those army balnket at tudekhel right in front of sahi nepali jangi adda).

How deep can a tiger enter inside a forest?

Don't tell me the most common answer " man lage samma bhitra janchha...jangal ma bagh lai ke ko dar?"

*****

prativa, to me....the third ant lied is funny. I was trying to rationlize it with different logics.

"arko belief..... right or left aankha farfarayo bhane either good or bad is happening but i don't know which one is which"

I also don't don't know which one is which...but I care less...

beliefs in Nepal. Someone told this sloke

Aita Fatcha [ Chadai fatcha re: because you were from Ait to Saturday
so it may not stand the first week end]

Mangal Dadcha [ Mangal Graha in Japanese has character that means Fire
I just tried to link with the planet that is known as symbol
of fire]

GP Posted on 20-Dec-01 10:58 PM

"Bashi Bashi Khane, Sutera jindagi bitaune" is the dream
of Nepali elite class. Therefore, they hire or find a child
servent and call it "HELPER", a good selection of words,
to avoid themselves fall in "Exploiters of Child". They
don't pay a paisa beyond "bihan beluka du chhak khana,
"rahe paheko", and school fees in public school" while
their own goes to best school in valley like STX, BNKS
or Little Angels . . . . .

Is the following belief on having a child "helper" is
satisfactory?
"If one of us hadn't taken these children into our wings, they would be out on the streets fending for themselves. OR, they would be washing chia glasses on the side of the highways".

"hamile uslai khana basna ra school ko cost behordiye
kai ta chhou".

Is this enough in return to double digit working hours ?

---
I think this belief has to be dismantled and probably this kind
of exploitation has made most of the "helper" join Maoists
or silently Maoist supporters.
