Govt warning to medics KOL Report KATHMANDU, Dec 1 - The government Friday warned the medics not to treat the wounded terrorists unless the permission granted by the security authorities. Speaking at a programme organised in the capital, Health Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari, said, gThe doctors working both in the government hospitals and private health institutions are liable to the government action if they treat the terrorists without getting permission from the security wings.h If any doctor defies it, actions will be taken against him/her as per the recently promulgated Ordinance against the terrorists, Minister Bhandari added. (yo) ---- This is real crazy attempt from Government. What they would have asked the medics is to keep the record of the Maoists cured or consulted under a medical practionner, but, they can not deny to cure someone who needs medical supports. Govt. would have asked Medical Practionner to report to govt. official upon someone coming to cure or medical help after getting some injuries because of involvement in terrorism and confrontation with Army or police personnel. The government/concerned minister doesn't know the medical ethics, and the charters of Vienna convention of International Red Cross and Red Crecents. I don't know if it is affected by the state of emergency? Since we have already lost our basic rights what can we say?

GP wrote Govt. would have asked Medical Practionner to report to govt. official upon someone coming to cure or medical help after getting some injuries because of involvement in terrorism and confrontation with Army or police personnel. Thats what the govt is doing The government Friday warned the medics not to treat the wounded terrorists unless the permission granted by the security authorities. Since its emergency, govt seems to be little harsh in words. Moreover we dont know the maoist tactics in terms of geting in touch with nepali doctors to get their comrades treated. So for the time being i just wait and see. Any way a nice point to b noted ( Its a more ethical issue, i guess).

Exactly. The doctors must treat whoever is in need or come across for treatment without any discrimation according to the oath they have taken. It is also inhuman to do otherwise. If the Health Minister does not know about it or knowingly violating it, then you can imagine the state of health. Like GP said, yes, the government could ask the doctors/clinics to furnish a list of those who received the treatment for their injuries, but, in my view, the Ministry ought to be checking things on a different front first. It is important at least on the part of the democratically elected government to show and act that it has not gone crazy. Otherwise, how are the people going to differentiate between the current government and the Maoists?

Nepalnews has changed the language now: ...................... .......... The Ministry has said that such information would be kept secret. Meanwhile, Ministry of Health has asked all health workers working in private hospitals, nursing homes and clinics to compulsorily inform the local administration or nearby security organs if they find persons involved in terrorist activities. It has further said that if any individual or institution were found treating such people without informing the local administration or security bodies, action would be taken against them. nepalnews.com yl Dec.1
