I'm wondering if this site can survive without Ashu. This is a poll.

As much as I like some of his postings, I think the answer is yes. Institutions that are built around an idea and not a person (and websites which are extensions of these institutions) usually last till people like the idea behind the institution and contribute to the insittution or the website in this case. Now if you ask me will the site become duller without Ashu , well, maybe yes. He is one hell of an interesting character who brings a lot to the table.

I tell you, it is a whole lot more interesting with him in here. Let's see, he is gone for the rest of December. We shall see how interesting this site stays without our master of ceremonies. As far as survival, no question. San will ensure this.

Even if you are an enemy of Ashu, you want him to be here. Its because you don't want to fight = discuss here with someone who just shuts up or close his computer after you fire on him first reply. Ashu is a person from my observation for last few years, has capacity to prove or discuss on extremely difficult topics that a cow can have 3 legs or 6 legs, or even without legs. We know everyone agrees that cows usually have 4 legs, but, a person is important who can go far from the average and multiple times of standard deviatioin from the center of discussion topics. Well, everyone has ego, pride and weakness, and Ashu does have. We had seen his weakness in recent debates on asking Biswo ji to apologize with Kunda Dixit, and how biased he was. Still his demands of apology brought many things here which is quite away from our average thinking. What I feel is with his current capacity, he still has to develop a lot, especially, he is now very good only for leader of oppositions, but, still has to develop more to be leader of governing body? Why, being in opposition in Nepal or elsewhere, you are mere like a watchdog, and you have to tell the public that hey you are wrong, here and there. But, when you are given responsibiity to do the same things from chair, will you be able to do that? How the available resources will limit your capability to perform those things will turn you to get similar criticisms? Underthat circumstances how are you going to handle things? If you are incapable, you will resign and love to be man in oppositions? So, its easy to be leader of opposition, than, being leader of governing party, in GBNC.org, the defending the main topics. Similarly, we had seen how Biswo ji defended Ashu. I was very much satisfied with Biswo ji's defensive points. So, we need good rival, and Without Ashu all topics will end up very fast. This thread is also catching because its on him. Lets see how this topic will survive because of his name, not because of his postings. We are suffering from Ashu hysteria. GP

No doubt Ashu is one of the best posters here. I like the way he writes, argues, and debates. I also like his infomative postings tapped from here and there. But I also hate when he writes again and again just to start his personal wars with some people in Boston. I have seen that he can go down to very low level at such occasion. Many serious posters have now joined this site. The site will of course continue even without him.

I agree with you U2. But why only ask of Ashu? He does more than his share. It takes more than one person to keep the discussion alive. Currently, I find only this forum at GBNC is the most sensible and quality one where one posts the views, argues, agrees, disagrees or don't say anything but just peek in. However, the tren seems to that once one gets into the real life (that is no college/university, no free or subsidized email, full time job, family, etc.), the site is hardly visited. In that respect, the continuing efforts of Ashu and Trailokya from Nepal as vibrant contributors are to be applauded. The forum offers the opportunity for all to express the views that you felt were important. The forum also enables readers, like me, to understand other peoples' views and respect their views even if they are different from mine. With internet access getting easier and somewhat cheaper too (so many internet booths in Thamel and around), in order to keep the forum alive, it is important to make a commitment that you will continue to contribute to such a forum, at least intermittently if you can't make it regularly, no matter where your future responsibilities take you.

As entertaining as it is to read Ashu's (sometimes diabolical) postings, he does go overboard at times. Like a lot of you already said, it takes more than one person to make anything a hit and it sure as hell is going to take more than one person's absence to take the charm out of this website. You have to admit though, Ashu couldn't have timed his absence better if he wanted to make it seem like this site couldn't survive without him. With Christmas just around the corner and a lot of people taking time off or covering for those taking time off, a lot of regular posters are probably facing time constraints. The lil' devil!! :)

I just couldn't establish the significance of this topic. Why people are trying to glorigy Ashu? I don't know. GBNC neither directly nor inversely proportionate to Ashutosh Tiwari. Raja marera ta desh sakidaina.... When Ashu posts something a group of people come to this site to complain "he's just too much" and when he says he is going away for some days someone introduces a topic for discussion "Can this site survive without Ashu??". Hell, yes. Unless, San lock the door to this GNBC site it will survive :-) Let's let Ashu be just Ashu. Lets not "embarass" overloading him by bestowing upon more dues than he can sort out. As we have seen he has enough friends and foes to defend and scold him. Let's be good and let him enjoy his away time and wish him wonderful moments and more wonderful moments and more..
