Perhaps, what Nepal needs is a law added in our constitution that will require all our MPs, just after they get elected, be put into a camp somewhere in Dhulikhel for a month for rigourous training on running a country, making decisions, economic policies, etc. The training shall be given by inviting best minds from the world (e.g. Harvard, MIT, Oxford, London School of Economics, etc). You know, all mess in Nepal is because of stupidity of our politicians. There may be a hope, if these stupid minds can be trained before they start functioning. This is important because smart people like us will not dare risk join politics and rather like to stay outside the country.

I think some rigorous orientation for our MPs will do the nation some good, at least in the begining, but I suspect as long as the environment they work in after the training remains the same, chances are they could go back to their old ways. But I do agree that our MPs need more exposure to what's going on in the world and how other democracies function and need this exposure on a constant basis.

I think you have heard about an ukhaan: "Bahra barsa kukur ko puchhar dhungra ma rakhyo, puchhar banga ko bangai" There is a new version of that floating around town these days, that is: "Bahra barsa kukur ko puchhar dhungra ma rakhyo, dhungrai bango" (I think someone has already posted this version also in this bulletin board, but I forgot the thread it was posted.) Ok, what I am trying to say is, even if you invite esteemed professors and professionals from different topnotch institutions and organiztions, I doubt they can change the mentality of Nepali politicians. On the contrary, I fear they themselves might be changed by noterity of our politicians. These politicians are too incorrigibly inured to the situation of Nepal to be changed by training of some handful of professionals.

“... because smart people like us will not dare risk join politics and rather like to stay outside the country.” I’m so sick of these arrogant expatriates who think they are too smart to stay in Nepal, while at the same time whine about how people in Nepal are not as smart as them. It amazes me how pathetic some people can become. I have had chance to live with quite a few of those people who are now politicians, and most of them were very motivated people who are deeply concerned about their country and are doing everything they can within their capacity. It takes time for change to happen and development is not something that happens overnight. It’s because of morons like you that exude so much negative mentality towards Nepal that we are loosing so much of our manpower to other countries. But there are people who are genuinely trying their best to bring about change despite all adversity—they might succeed if only people like you would give them a chance. Just because some people fail to do their job responsibly, it’s very unwise of you to generalize that Nepalese politicians are not as smart as you. You probably don’t even care about Nepal and just feel like proving your superiority by leaving Nepal. It’s very easy to criticize—first try to prove you could have done any better. But since you are too smart for Nepal, please leave it to those who care.

I agree on ur point and need of some orientation for these MPs. But have u ever seen the CVs of majority of our lawmakers, so i wonder if it would turn out like bin( used for snake) for elephant!
