Army intensifies operation in Rolpa More than 60 terrorists killed, four soldiers dead KOL Report KATHMANDU, Dec 9 – At least 60 Maoist terrorists and four Royal Nepal Army personnel lost their lives in an encounter in Raatmate of Rolpa district last night that took place after the Maoists attacked the soldiers who were guarding a repeater station. The terrorists is said to have used some of the sophisticated weapons looted from a RNA barrack in Dang during the attack. According to a Defense Ministry statement, at least 50-60 bodies of the dead terrorists were found dispersed around the incident site after the encounter that lasted for around seven hours. More dead as well as injured terrorists were taken away by their colleagues and it is difficult to obtain further details on the incident due to unfavorable weather conditions, the statement says. The repeater station is said to have been undamaged during the terrorist attack. The Army has also recovered a few weapons including three light machine guns (LMG) after the encounter. Eight RNA personnel who were injured during the encounter have been airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment and further reinforcements are being sent, the statement reads. Likewise, two more Maoist terrorists were killed and 25 others arrested by the patrolling RNA personnel in Chaughada area of Nuwakot district after an encounter, the statement says. Furthermore, 19 people, including seven from Kamdi VDC of Banke, six from Pandusen of Bajura, four from Paanchmane of Kathmandu, and two from Purvachisapani of Bardia, have been arrested on suspicion of having links with the terrorists. One of those arrested in Bardia is suspected to have been a regional leader of the terrorists, the statement says. Similarly, RNA personnel also foiled Maoist attempts to damage a repeater station of Nepal Telecommunications in Kapurkot of Salyan district. Meanwhile, the statement also says that the terrorists have also resorted to attacking in-service and former army men as well as their relatives. In Ganeshsthan village of Nuwakot district, the terrorists bombed the residence of former army man Sitaram Rai killing him this morning while the terrorists also bombed the residence of serving army man Chanash Rai in the same district killing his father, the release states. “We express our heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their lives in service to the nation and express a speedy recovery of those injured,” the statement reads.
