Here is something entertaining. Simply for fun and ribbing. What I think of when I see the aliases on this board (word associations): GP: political awareness NK: rogue poet Biswo: Bill O'Reilly (well, anti-Bill O'Reilly), and political awareness JDV: a fat woman who wants to talk to her about her baby Sangey: babyface, troublemaker ANepaliKT: disillusioned but potent feminist Ashu: a bull's eye Kancho: about to break out into song Sfengali: urban Nepali rapper Siwalik: voice of democracy San: Atlas with a growing GBNC message board on his back Sunakhari: feminist (not disillusioned) Arnico: owl (ok, a wise one) I am sure I missed some of you. Feel free to add your versions. But be nice.

Word association: BP = British Petroleum Joie, maybe it was meant as a compliment. If BP is so conservative he probably thinks a gal who just wants to talk about her babies is fulfilling her proper role. And being fat is probably good for a woman, too, since it means she spends all her time in the kitchen preparing for the Lord and Master rather than being a no good bra-burnin' feminist who goes to the health club and eats granola ...

Can I be Minister of Public Information? That way, what with the Emergency, I wouldn’t have to do a lot of work these days. I’d just write all about the bravery and achievement of all the other ministers. Also, I can spell "auspicious." That probably helps in the job. BP: I definitely believe in shades of grey. After all, that's what the human brain is made of, right? Anyway, if you’re a conservative with well-shaded grey matter, I’m relieved. I thought conservatives were only grey on the outside. JUST KIDDING. Really, I don’t follow any particular “party line.” It seems to me that too much party-ing addles the brain.

Minister of Women Welfare! HA! You all thought I would be satisfied being allocated that lowly position in a government that I might not even agree with! I say Sunakhari, let us start the First Women's Party of Nepal and take over!! We can have a revolving primiership!! Sally, NK, Amina,JDV, what do you all say? We don't even have to have prime ministers at all. Let's just have a Women Leaders' Roundtable that decides everything on consensus!! The men can serve can serve us tea!

ANepaliKT, Thats good idea of having Women's Party, but, you lack one thing i.e. "WITHOUT PM?". That means, you will fail like Nepali communists. The Nepali communists say they want consensus without bold leadership, and finally break in to dozens. I fear you will end up the same way, our Guptachar Bibhag head BP jee will invade your meetings as tea server and let us know everything whats going on inside your meeting, where me as Prawakta will have to give derogatory report to make you break and bring your unsatisfied members to occupy our women 's welfare division. Hey, this will be our working style to make you break the Women's Party without clear leadership. GP

anepalikt: I don't know what's wrong with me! Btw, this ministry will probably have hard time doing anything. Reasons: Gootbandi: Ashu and BP will be suspiciously huddled all the time, while NK will watchfully guard them. BP may even go to verbal assault against NK. Machiavellian scheme: I think Ashu will always work as opposition, like UML in interim government. He will take credit for all good works. The government , he would even say, is functioning well because partly of me. Ideological Sharonian: The ministry will be like Sharon ministry. From left to right. Imagine ministry where conservatives like BP will be huddled together with feminist like NK. Eternal Ennui: Without Bal Bdr KC type stalwart like Ananda Agrawal, the ministry won't get any fun. And male supremacists will not support me anyway. Finally, with as inefficient prime minister as me, this council of ministry won't run more days than my money will allow it to run(money to buy MPs, and send some of them to Bangkok etc places.) ---------- Intended for fun only.

Guys, Can I be Hoolak Minister? Our hoolak (postal) system is such a mess that once my friend Kapuri Kant Karki's love-letters to Manisha Koirala got disastrously misdirected to her grandfather Girija Prasad Koirala who wrote back -- sighing like a furnace -- saying that he loved Kupuri too. Hoolak Minister can help Nepalis start mail-order businesses from their oen homes . . . imagine having packages of gundruk, masyaura, titaura, pustakari and so on delivered to your door-steps, without your friendly neighborhood hoolaki eating it all up and giving you only the wrappers!! Not to mention, the sheer ease in paying your bijuli, dhara, phone, land and tax ko bills by just dropping the checks in the mail. Hoolak is the least appreciated but most useful Ministry/Bhibag . . . with little efforts, good publicity any good Hoolak minister can be a hero in everyone's eyes -- paving the way for bigger "paud' later on. oohi ashu ktm, nepal

With a government like this, who needs an opposition? Just going down our cabinet makes me wonder who will be leading the next coup. Seriously, I bet this is not that dissimilar to what actually happens in our real government eh? And I would submit to PM Biswo that we still do not have a Foreign Minister and a Health Minister. Please do not let Ashu swallow up these posts as well. Plus I am wondering about Ashu's eligibility for the Hoolak Minister's post. Who in the world designs stamps that you have to spit onto? OK, that was pretty funny. Plus he is obviously thinking of raising the standard postal rates, starting at Rs 10.00! Even if it has my picture in it. It may always be easier to walk down the road to get your pustakaris and titauras.

I rather like anepalikt’s idea. I’m all for the First Women’s Party of Nepal. It about time we came out of our shells and showed the men what we’re made of. I don’t want to burn my bra since I need them to fight the gravity old age seems to bring on but I’ll happily relinquish my kitchen duties to my Lord and Master. Lets see him whip up a delicious meal in half an hour flat after a hard days work!! P.S – Fat women with babies welcome to join the FWPN on the condition that they sign an agreement NOT to bore us with tales about how beautiful, intelligent and witty their babies are! And BP, you seriously need to work on your sentence structure!!

Gp ji: Did I read wrong, were you kidding, or did you in all honesty mean what you wrote about women having coordination skills, turing good home bad, less corrupt, etc? Sorry! I personally cannot guarantee any of those three things above. I do not have good coordination skills... no knack for running a house full of servants and extended family members, no matching outfits and bags, no little tea parties, no graceful sashaying down the ramp. As for the home part, I have to give equal credit to the other members of the family... I am not solely responsible for anything that goes on. And less corrupt! Hello! Where did you get THAT idea? Also, I have no intention of heading the party. As I wrote earlier I was envisioning a more egalitarian setup... a part led by a group vs. individuals. And if someone wants to come snoop at our meetings they are more than welcome to do so. They are after all going to be open to all members (remember its a women's party)... I can't wait to see BP in drag and Ashu!! And I don't even care if we are not ever in office. Actually I think it should just be more of a grassroots movement to subvert the status quo!! We might even change the name of the party as Sunakhari suggested and simply call it the MALE_EGO_BAN party.

ANepaliKT ji you picked up only the opposite part "turing good home bad" of what meant honestly, and I surely meant a few time its also true that entry of a new woman in good house turn to a bad house. Its primarly because male don't live in others house, but woman do, its widely accepted (at present). So, going to a new house and ability to adjust herlsef with a new environment will lead the house to good or bad shape in coming days. Whether you accept or not, in Nepal's joint family structure its true. Not only in Nepal, in Asian culture too. As the economy of women goes on changing, lets hope the effect of new "adult" female member will not be the reason to +- turning point of a house. But, in joint family esp. in villages its still true. It may not apply to you, but, in Nepali villages it applies. Please, be assured that I am not supporting that woman should be treated how our ancestors treated, but, as long as economy and education remains hurdles, you can not deny my observation. Well, you can be outrageous with my observation. You might be an exception who can kick and blow all those happenings, but, its not true for common woman. (read yesterday Kantipur, a lekh by Mamata Sharma) I had spent my 1st 20yrs life in our joint family of 40 peoples, I had more experience than probably you have. FYI, when I asked with my colleague in my former univ. what kind of girl you are looking for? He said I want to marry a girl who wants to stay with her parents? (He wanted to be Ghar Jwai). With my Nepali mind, I was surprised and I asked him why? He said if I stay with my own mother, there are chances of confliction with my mother, but, if I stay with her parents, with mother-daughter relation, she will never have trouble and our life will be smooth. He is not a common man, he has PH.D. and a univ. teacher. Such problem is still in Japan, after such economic independence and education, why? So, if my son intends to stay at sasurali in future I will not deny, and in return I will not mind to have a Gharjwai for my daughter, especially, when I get old. Lets face the fact. and correct me if I am wrong. Well, feminist may hate my observation, but, lets change with time. I hate revolution, but, believe in evolution. GP
