Crying Game

My all time favourite. Has anybody seen it? It was such a long time ago. Heart wrencing. what is love after all? It is transcendental... you think you are something then a true test comes and shows you and says, "no you are not. you are different than what you thought you were." One thinks one loves certain things/ certain quality but boy, does it get dismantled when one really has to make a choice.

Rea was great. i forgot the name of the other characters. but they were superb. superbly acted cinema. the story was basically a love story but intertwined with the IRA stuff. The brutality of the IRA, the politics and so on.

Rating: ****

rating system:

The Crying Game is a daring movie with a great plot, acting and moments. But I did not find it exactly as a love story, as NK seems suggesting. Whose love is being talked about ? Fergus' (Rea) love to Dil ? Or Dil's love to Fergus ? Dil is disperate for a support. I wouldn't call that a love. There is a believable development of Fergus' feeling for Dil, but I would not call it love either. Fergus did not love, if it ever is love, Dil for who she/he is. The bond between Fergus and Dil is Dil's dead lover. So where is love ?

know what 'an indun poet'? i have never gotten around seeing this movie. That is next on my list. just a few days back i rented all three movies. all with English subtitles [lol]. i just finished Felini's 81/2. have you two seen it, Nepe? what do you think? it has been said that this movie has influenced more directors than any. it is black and white, sort of autobiographical, a lot of questions about himself (Felini, the great director)...... if you write i will write more.

and nepe's bewilderment (?) on my comments about love. What is the working definition of love for you? let's narrow it down. say between a man a woman. i am not talking about between brother and a sister nor mother and a son.

why couldnot love happen between the assassinator and the victim. This angle is what the most startling aspect of the movie. The love between dil and Ferguson. (btw thank you for reminding me the name. i had forgotten everybody's name.)Did F. set out to love a transvestite? But it *does* happen. otherwise why would he come back again to Dil? who forced him if it was not for love? I have to see the movie again and let's talk more time permitting.

Honest, I do not know what is love. But I think I know what is not love. Sometimes I think there is no love as such. It was romantic poets like you who invented it to spice up any strong emotions like desire, passion, libido, trust, bewilderment, admire and so on. But what I agree with love-ists (I hope I am not inventing them) is that 'love' works. It is almost parallel to say 'God' works, although it too was invented.

I wish we start a thread on this topic in Kurakani. I am sure there are many Prem Pundits out there who can shed light on this topic and perhaps cure me of my scepticism about love. I will be grateful.

P.S. Haven't seen the other movies you mentioned. They are certainly in my list now.

just one quice response, i will write more later:

why are you branding/pigeonholing me into calling me a love poet? For, I write on various subjects. I strongly :] suggest you to read (of course when you have nothing else to do)once again.

Sorry, I did not mean to brand you as a love poet.

I have read quite a good number of your poems, in terms of my poor readership of literature (Literature is not my field !). I read your poetry first time in TND. Since then I do not miss to read 'em wherever I find. I do not always grasp everything, but I always find them delightful to read.

I am a freshman here. I hope we shall be talking more in future in various forums and threads.

Wish you a happy new year !!

see, this is not fair. You know me and I don't know you. I should have written with a pen name from the very start. also i am kind of embarrassed. The TND poems were so unrefined. I am not saying recent poems are the epitome of refinement but they are somewhat improved. but still thank you. sorry we are veering off from the main topic.

have a a happy new year.
